my gunmetal grey mk1 renovation project. pic heavy!

ok i though you guys may appreciate this…

i picked up a cheap silver mk1 in february for the princly sum of £700, i sold the wheels on it straight away for £150 so the car stood me in at £550.

heres what it looked like

the paint was shocking and very patchy so it needed some attention! que going to see my good friend dave up in sheffied at deepcar autobodies. http://deepcarautobodies.co.uk/

cant recommend his work enough!

a new colour of mazda graphite grey was chosen…

and here is the finished article.

my plan was always to put the red interior in it from the r ltd and lucky for me a complete and i mean complete interior was purchased from a good friend of mine for not a lot of money! the seats need recovering but will address that next year!

so here are a few pics of the work in progress…

still need to fit the new dash and main carpets, hoping to do this next week when its not raining!

plenty more to do with freshening up the whole interior, updates will follow over the next month or so.

and the mechanicals have all been addressed as well, complete service everything done cambelt included, new brakes and a complete new cooling system so should be good for a few years now!

12 months mot granted last week with no advisories

Good choice of colour and it looks like a great respray, i look forward to seeing how the interior looks when it’s finished.

I always thought that a gunmetal/anthracite mk1 would look good. This is the first one I’ve seen. Nice job Thumbs up

That looks bl**dy lovely, Hoolie Thumbs up

Indeed. Looks bloody great Garath Thumbs up

Not a fan of the red interior personally (says the man who used to have a tan inerior) but i`m sure it will look fab when finished.

I`m off to Painter Daves in a few days to have a dent attended to…He sure knows his onions!

cheers guys

still a lot to do but hoping to have it looking presentable for JAE in september.

reds growing on me now and once its all in im convinced it will look great

The red interior is looking ace against the body colour, good choice mate Thumbs up

Love it mate, that colour looks amazing, I’d love to justify doing something like that at some point.

interior is now all in bar the seats that need retrimming that will happen after christmas

black seats for the time being

Very nice mate, love the grey.

Thumbs up

Cool Ive always said a mk1 would look fantastic in gun metal. VERY NICE. well done. Please keep us updated. Thumbs up

The first MX5 I wanted to buy was gunmetal grey - resprayed in Japan.

Looks ace with the red interior

…personally i prefer the black seats in it sets off the red better. maybe  recover in black with some red piping only.

steve

What are you doing on the power side of things Garath?

M-m

there may well be a turbo in the pipeline only a diy TD04 jobbie.

have a few other interior bits to fit as well, toggle switches for windows and the pop up lights, runabout door mirrors and kg works style interior mirror that will brighten up the interior.

planning a trip to jack smiths early next year for the seats to be retrimmed and whilst im at it i will get the doorcards and crash pads redone so it all matches . And if i have the funds it will get a burgundy mohair hood as well.

this one is a keeper and once its finished it will most likly become a garage queen and i will pick up another rough and ready mk1 for my daily driver.

I have one on the go, which might end up super charged on the VVT engine plus all the other bits in a 1, the new play thing as my good lady tells me, I have had an owner coming here for the last couple of years that has a Mk1 in that colour that was done over in Japan before imported here,it is a great colour for the 1.
