My husbands 1970 Mustang

Thought it would be OK to post this here. Here are a few photos of my husbands 1970 Mustang Coupe.

Quite a rare beast as it was one of only 133 sold that year with the 351 ci V8 (5.75 litre) and four speed manual transmission. Other option boxes ticked were power steering and power brakes.

It’s quite a contrast to my MK 3

Quite a beast, I’m quite partial to Pony cars

Steve McQueen car chase in a Ford Mustang in BULLITT - one of the best car chases ever !

Great car, but not the easiest thing to park in the the local supermarket car park and get in or out of!

Are you talking about a MX5 or the Mustang,

Mustang is no bigger than the MK1 Granada coupe he used to run, very easy to get in and out of, doors are huge! plus good space for 2 rear seat passengers and loads of luggage.

It’ll come in handy for the MX-5 rallies for carrying deck chairs picnics, kids, dogs etc

Long ago, 1980, I worked as a freelance programmer. A work colleague on one contract I did in SW London

owned a mid-60’s Mustang Convertible 289 ci V8, with manual transmission.

The guy had a problem with his left arm, it was almost useless., and he’d keep his arm/hand in his jacket pocket.

One day he gave me a lift in the Mustang. It was terrifying. Howling down the residential back streets, cars parked on both sides.

When he wanted to change gear, he took his right hand off the steering wheel, momentarily steadying the steering with his right knee,

and changed gear with the good right arm.

Wonder if he’s still alive.

( Must admit, though…, I always preferred the big, black Dodge Charger in ‘Bullitt’ ).

Good point.  In my Tesco’s you could get into the spaces with an MX5 but if someone parks in the right-hand space next to you it’s impossible to open the driver’s door! But you couldn’t get a Mustang into the box between the white lines in the first place!

Mustang_Widow -
A question for you - or your husband -
Did he take off the pony lump in front of the grille and stick the ‘Stang’ badge on ínstead - or did it come that way?

I’m curious, as this is what I did with my 65.

It did come that way since grille and mustang emblem are standard and correct for 1970, (or so my hubby reliably informs me)

trufflehunt - sounds like a bit of 'armless fun to me

As for supermarket car parks, as far as my hubby is concerned these are only drop off and pick up points, if needs must the most outer deserted points can be used as waiting areas

Very sensible!

Back when I was 38 yrs old I started importing Yank cars, A constant request was for a Mach 1 which were like gold dust I only manage to supply one, A 71 with a 351 Cleveland Motor. My main stock were Camaro, Firebird. and Plymouth/Dodge. My regular car was a Plymouth Barracuda with a 318 V8. But the prices got silly and Harder to find. Those were the days.

Mustang_Widow, thanks for that, and your husband too. Didn’t realize they took the lump off later, a good move. Also worth a few dollars, but that car didn’t look right with it on.
