My mid pipe has detached from my back box inlet pipe

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2009 NCMK3.5
  2. I’m based near: Medway
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on:

It looks like a welded joint between the back box and mid pipe has detached. I’m pretty sure it was from hitting a speed bump. First of all does the mid pipe contain a cat or is it just a resonator. Secondly would welding it back together be a safe bet or would new parts be required. It’s a stock exhaust system I’m looking to replace it but not for a while.

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks

Thanks for that mick. So you believe it’s not feasible to weld it back together ?

I suppose it’s possible to get it welded, at what cost though? That part sleeves over the cut pipe then connects to the back box. Freeing up the bolts on the back box can be a task too, simple of course if the nuts aren’t rusted up.

ours was welded locally for £40 cash in hand 3 years ago. No problem since with use and/or MOT
Good luck!
