Hi everyone I’m new to the mx5 scene. I decided I needed a project so when a cheap mk1 came up for sale locally which needed a bit of work I jumped at the chance. So here is a pic of her as I picked it up looking a bit sorry for itself.

hooray! Finally worked out pictures
So after I got it back to our workshop (we run a family coach company so have good facilities). I decided to paint the wheels as at the time i wasn’t too offended with the paintwork. I used rattle cans and was pretty happy with the results.
Welcome to the addiction, the wheels look great now.
Thanks. I love working on it as it’s so Basic compared to modern cars. Anyway onwards! when the ad was in the air (for wheels) I noticed the nearside rear sill make an alarming crunch when the jack touched it ??. This Was the result of whT I thought was solid.
R
So I bought a sill section and made up some structural framework and got cracking With the welder (I don’t claim to be anything other than home taught I’m afraid??
By by this point I decided I was going to spray both sides of the car as a previous owner had tried and it is very flat and orange peely!
Good work there, it must be nice to have the facilities you have.
Best not to jack on the sills, use the diff for jacking the back end up.
Yeh I learnt that the hard way ??. On the positive side the other sill was solid. The workshop is handy and the mx5 looks funny on lifts that can manage 40tonnes ??
So this brings me up to date. Today I sanded down the drivers side and filled the blemishes. I’m also pleased I didn’t find any nasty surprises. I did have to go down to metal on the arches so etch primes them. And my spray kit arrived ??. Time to get practicing!
It looks tiny.
