My Mk2.5 1.8 Phoenix

Finally managed to find myself a wee mx5

It’s an 02 1.8 Phoenix model with bubbly arches but solid in all the right places

Currently sitting on lowering springs and has a K&N Typhoon intake

Know very little about these cars as i’m a VW man at heart lol so don’t go too hard on me Embarassed

It’s so much fun to drive, loving it Smile

Lifted it yesterday and these pics were taken on the phone when I got it home, needs a good polish and wax.

Any advice on maintenance and common mods would be great !

Oh, and here’s my LPG’d R32 which is now the daily driver lol

Well the best mod you can make for sure is to remove that horrible roll bar and sell it to me… I will make sure it is disposed of for you by fitting it to my Phoenix.

Jog on lad lol

Welcome to the forum J-VW - lots of advice readily available here as and when you need it.  Arches and sills a common problem - check out the drain holes in due course , also get undertray off and check out front chassis legs asap . Apart from that , enjoy the summer !

Well worth a try,  Nice motor, the double of mine.  Put chrome surrounds on the indicators looks really good along with the door handles.

very nice looking motor.

Nice looking car, same as my better half’s. How much have you lowered her? and how good is the ride?
Brian.

Thanks guys, not sure what springs are in it but it’s still very comfy!

Hello and welcome! Am generally not a huge fan of non-popup lamp models of MX-5 but those Phoenix edition cars I really do like.

Just have a close check of the front chassis rails for crumbly rusting (where the anti-roll bar brackets attach) apply tonnes of Waxoyl inside and out if found to be sound.

Hi taff thanks for the welcome and advice regarding the waxoyl-ing.

Thinking of an exhaust system next and possibly a new clutch in the not so distant future so any recommendations for either are more than welcome!

Managed to grab a few better pics on the camera the other day near Browns Bay, Larne, Northern Ireland for anyone interested  Smile

Hi,

Looks good!! Don’t suppose you are interested in a hardtop!!

Cheers

Dave

If it’s a colour match then I am…

Hi, your car is the same as mine, 02 silver phoenix edition , if your wheel arches have a few bobbles then I’d make that your next job, normally they rust from the inside which means I’d get the sills checked as well, the longer it’s left the more it will cost, I left mine for about 18 months and it’s just cost me £800 for a full over hall of sills and rear arches. Apart from that they are bullet proof and so much fun to drive.

So coilovers are ordered and picked these up

Now I thoroughly dislike you my Celtic brother.
