My other car is/was a 4 year old Hyundai i10

lovely white vehicle very comfy, simple to drive with lots of gismos however,  not all that I wanted.

It really stinks (smells) inside, I think it,s coming from the Air con, I believe now that it may? be a common fault with Hyundais?

nyone know about this?

Gales

Quite common because ppl don’t run their aircon on hot to dry out the condenser also a lot of ppl have to intake/recirc control set to recirc did the windows steam up a lot if they did that was what you had done

Highly likely it was the aircon / polon filter. For future ref can be washed or just renewed.

Thanks for the info, It’s a brand new car it’s only done 30 miles from the dealer to my home, Should this happen with a new car?, in the meantime I’ve set the aircon to max temp and made sure it is not recurculating the air.
Thanks for the replies.
Gales.

Easy enough to drop out and clean. Probably full of decaying leaves. Clean out and spray with dettox.

As it’s been said it’s a brand new car

A friend brought his brand new C200 round this evening.  He was speculating about the “New Car Smell” one can buy in an aerosol, and he thought it had been over-applied to his car, because it ponged of ‘Luxury’

He laughed when I mentioned your i10 pong, and said that when his previous C200 was delivered four years ago a mouse had fallen through a hole it chewed in the pollen filter, and it made the most appalling mess in the fan and left an awful stink.  The dealer had to clean it all out and disinfect it all.

The car may be brand new, but it could have been manufactured a while ago.

I’d take it back to the dealer - but ultimately it sounds like the pollen filter has got soggy

Did you trade it in for a brand new i10?  Just wondered as my mother has owned the previous model and got a brand new 1.2 automatic, Premium I think.  Great little car, a big improvement on the previous model, can’t believe how nice it is to drive for a small car.  I’ll be looking at one of them, I think when my commuting car dies.

Our other car is an i10. It was delivered to the dealer for us to pick up, but I have no idea how long it was sitting around in a lot somewhere.

However, there was no issue any smell… Except for our kids complaining when they get in my car, as it doesn’t smell as nice as the new one!

Yes, I did trade it in for a brand new one, It is definitely an impprovement, it’s an SE, 3 cyl, 1 litre manual model. The previous one  was a 1.2Litre 4cyl  manual model, with skinny tyres which proved to be pretty tireing on along run.

Although the new one is slightly underpowered as compared with the previous one, the little 3 cyl engine is very plucky, high reving throaty little roar as it takes off. and fat tyres which makes a much more comfortable ride…

I’m happy to report that the nasty smell is gradually diminishing, not yet completely gone but I have high hopes.

A big plus factor is that SWMBO has taken to it with great gusto. She gave up driving  about 6 yeqrs ago, she preferred me to drive, lost her confidence I believe.

She loves the new car and has regained her mojo, and is driving it with lots of enthusiasm and regained skills , which is a great relief to me as I am about to enter a course of treatment for Macular degeneration in the eyes.

That’s good that the smell is going, enjoy your new car.

OK, thanks for that Cletus

Gales

It’s possible that condensation has formed on the condenser unit and a smelly layer of bacteria has grown there. You could buy an aerosol can of aircon disinfectant. The idea is that you set the car’s aircon going on recirculating mode. The can is set off and the doors shut. The contents sprays into the interior and the aircon system and disinfects everything. I have used these in various cars with good results.

I think the last time I bought a can it cost about £6.

That seems an easy fix Paul, Can the product be purchased at Halfords?, we have one locally.

Do you use the whole can in one burst spray? and how long do you run the aircon /engine for.?

I assume you place the can on the floor of the car? press the button or whatever, , close the doors and retire immediately??

in retrospect ther’s probably instructions on the can?

Many thanks for the suggestion.

Gales

Yes, the instructions are easy to follow. The can is a one shot thing, once you set it off in a footwell you leave it to empty automatically.

I actually bought my last can from “Aldi” but Halfords do sell the stuff fo their usual premium price. Or many motor factors sell it, too.

OK, thanks for your quick response, I shall walk down to Aldi later, it’s nearer than Halfords and probably cheaper…

Snowing steadily hear in Oswestry, Temp was 2.7DegC about an hour ago , now down to 0.9, it’s sticking on parked cars but not on the road “YET”!!!

Cheers and

Many Thanks Paul.

Gales.

Not sure about it being in stock at Aldi at this time of year. Our local branch seem to vary what they have on sale according to the season.

OK Paul,

Halfords is only another 400yds further than our Aldi so the excersise will do me good

thanks

Gales.
