My supercharger pulley has come loose!

I was in my car today and a loud rattling noise started in the engine bay. Upon inspection my supercharger pulley has come loose and is wobbling around causing the rattling noise. The nut holding it on is still tight which makes me think a washer has snapped off causing the pulley to become loose.

How do I go about fixing this? And how do I stop the supercharger turning when I do or undo the nut?

If I was in your position i’d be inclined to get on the blower(no pun intended) to Phil. He is in the best position knowing your install to show you the way forward.

Phil was the first person I thought of. I’ve sent him an email. I didn’t think he’d be open this time on a saturday.

Did you get any joy?

No reply to my email. I’ll ring him tomorrow.

I presume you’ve sorted this by now.

But the pully is on a keyway so it shouldn’t be able to ‘come loose’ even with a loose nut.

I’d guess you have an aftermarket pully on there which could do with changing.

OK! All done now. I didn’t have an aftermarket pulley. I contacted
James at Stage One Tuning who was superb and diagnosed the problem
straight away. The keyway had ripped the inside of the pulley. It seems
to be a well known fault which is why the new pulleys are anoised. I
ordered a new pulley from James (he also sent me a new nose nut for
free). See my cardomain page for more info on how I did it all.
