Just a heads up if anyone is planning to order any tyres from mytyres.co.uk. Have a look at their latest reviews on Trustpilot before ordering (or just have a look anyway for a laugh). They seem to be in trouble somewhere.
I ordered 4 tyres over 2 weeks ago and have not received them. I’ve not been charged yet but I don’t want to order from elsewhere for the mytyres order to then be fulfilled and then be charged as I think that I’ll have trouble getting a refund. Can’t get hold of anyone to cancel the order or get an estimated delivery date.
That’s a pity. I’ve ordered from them before, albeit about 4 years back, and they were fine.
I’ve done BlackCircles since.
Camskills I’ve found via browsing to be the cheapest, but never bought from them as to buy from them you’ve got to use card details, as they don’t so the likes of paypal. Their loss.
I guess I’m a bit old-fashioned about this sort of thing……
I’ve been buying tyres from the same guy in Lisburn for over 30 years.
He treats me well and I trust his advice and value his opinion.
This is the value of finding a good independent professional- as opposed to a corporate body more interested in the bottom line than bringing people back again and again. Applies to many of the things we need in our lives, not merely tyres etc
My concern is this guy is going to retire sometime - and whilst I wish him well, I hope the business will continue, and at the same level of service.
I have personal experience of mytyres! Last year I ordered 4 x Hankook, Winter i*cept RS 2 on 31 October 2023 from them. Ordering was a piece of cake and then I waited… and waited. I needed the winter tyres for a trip to Germany,
On 3rd of November I got an email saying: Your order has been received on Oct 31, 2023. We have sent your order to our warehouse on Oct 31, 2023. Your order will be shipped shortly.
Later that day I got another email - Thank you very much for your order. We are pleased to inform you that your delivery with the item(s) Item No.: R-280779 Item Description: Hankook 205/50 R16 87H 4PR, SBL (Wi) Winter icept RS 2 (W452)* Quantity: 4 has already left our warehouse and is on its way to you.
I discovered that they were coming from Germany! (I could have collected them myself when I got there !)
I was given a DPD tracking number that I checked daily for the next week and half with DPD saying they were still at the warehouse.
Time was running out for my journey so I logged an enquiry via their website at https://www.mytyres.co.uk/order/contact-form
Mytyres were saying they had been picked up by DPD, and DPD saying they were at mytyres warehouse.
I spoke to an agent at mytyres who said they couldn’t trace the tyres so I cancelled my order on 14 Nov 2023 and would you believe it they were delivered on 16th November so I refused delivery as I had now ordered different tyres locally.
They took my money on 3 Nov and I finally got my refund on 27 November.
I think they are ok in reality but it’s the fact they are dispatching from Germany and that takes up to 3 weeks (customs processing etc) and the DPD tracking system wasn’t up todate. They are particularly bad at managing customer expectations, if you are prepared to wait 3 to 4 weeks you will save a couple of pounds but I believe they will turn up.
Yes, My Tyres is Deltacom and to a certain extent is a bucket shop where wholesalers around Europe can add their stock to their systems, much like Amazon.
Unfortunately a certain vote back in 2016 has resulted in the the typical 3 to 4 week delivery process and the notable increase in prices. It is generally far more cost effective to get tyres already in the UK.
your right to cancel an order starts the moment you place it
and ends 14 days after your goods are delivered to you, your nominated neighbour or your dedicated safe place.
You should be given the ability to cancel your order at the point of sale.
Most retailers will provide an email address or cancellation form for you to fill out to cancel your order.
The retailer shouldn’t make cancelling an online order unnecessarily difficult. For example, you shouldn’t need to call to get authorisation to return an item.
…
As they are selling to the UK they are subject to the Consumer Contracts Regulations as well as Distance Selling Regulations.
In accordance with your rights under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, advise them you would like to cancel the contract.
Ask for and require written confirmation from them that the contract has indeed been cancelled and that full repayment to you will be made if they end up charging you.
Also speak to your bank / credit card company. Hopefully you paid on credit card and it’s over £100, which arguably gives you the best protection.
The thing about this is it is down to the consumer to enforce it. The rules will be on your side if you want to take someone to court, but it will be down to you to do it.
Delays aside, you are very unlikely to have a problem with My Tyres, they are a fully reputable company and are not out to scam anyone. Auto Doc on the other hand will absolutely screw you over and ultimately say “We are in Germany, what are you going to do about it?”
Also there are loads and loads of UK sellers, bedroom companies if you like, that have nothing but a website and a Hotmail email contact. Rules are only rules if they are policed.
Increase in price are everywhere. Not just tyres, but I’m all right jack everywhere. Recall our conversation before about someone’s ridiculous ‘broker fee’ increase
If it’s not Brexit, it’s covid, it’s Ukraine, it’s the Middle East, roll_eyes:
I do so love an uninformed opinion, and you supply so many to chose from.
I do believe you are the person that said a brokerage fee rise from £10 to something that actually allowed a broker to actually do some work on policies was wrong, but very soon after complained about not getting the service you demanded. The world is full of people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
So, let’s just look at your comments. Prior to 2021, when the full border and customs controls which resulted from Brexit came into force, I used to spend about £10,000 annually with Deltacom via their trade site. In 2022, that figure was zero because prices became uncompetitive overnight and delivery times, which were 2 or 3 days became 2 or 3 weeks. While I did spend money with them last year on some specialist tyres, I have spent nothing again this year.
The cost of shipping a container of tyres to the UK, going round Cape Horn rather than through the Suez has added around £5K per container. The headline shipping price increase is 300%
The Ukraine conflict not only had an effect on oil prices, which is a requirement for tyre production, it also caused companies such as Yokohama to close their Russian tyre production facilities and move production elsewhere resulting in significant increases in tyre cost.
Latest deforestation regulations and international sustainability carbon regulations which come into force in December are predicted to add 3 to 5% to prices.
I suspect the average, uninformed, angry consumer will think it is just Jack being alright though.
So here’s a weird thing. I normally do the online, MyTyres / Blackcircles quote bit and then ask my local small town Freefit for a quote. Guess what, Uniroyal Rainsport 5 205/60/16 for my NC, (lovem) £114.52 fitted. Against £118 from online. And they will reseal, rebalance and whatever very reasonably if needed because I’m a good customer and they are still in business giving a good service. Sometimes I’ll even pay a few quid more for the convenience of having them still in business when I really need them.
Did buy some Kleiber quadraxers from Mytres a few years ago and they arrived within the week from Germany as they just weren’t available in the uk.
Kind regards
Marc
PS I’m in rural Devon
