Some time ago I changed the airbag steering wheel on my 1.8iS to a Momo one using a particular boss and electronic kit ( a resistor?) to defeat the airbag warning light circuit. From the photos it appears something like this might have been used in the OP’s car when the wheel was changed. If I recall correctly the horn and indicator arrangements are different for an airbag wheel v non airbag wheel so it is unlikely it will fit. A better bet might be to find a nice new wheel to fit the existing boss ensuring the screw hole pattern is the same.
I really like the look of the non airbag wheel i had the thought of drill hole in back to fit wires through and the horn but i guess like you say i might have to find a nice airbag one and sell the one ive got.
Hmm just had a thought if the wiring has been changed for the light not to come or however how do i get it back to normal.
Sorry Kev…I meant replace with another non-airbag one that will fit the current boss. I think the only airbag one likely to fit is the original fitted to the 1.8iS and I guess some US models. Even if you find one I would be worried about what has been done to the wiring. One of the reasons I removed mine was that there was a fault somewhere and the warning light was on. BTW this has never been an MOT issue as there is no evidence it ever had an airbag and they were rare on MK1’s.
Sorry Kev regret I can’t answer that…maybe someone else can. All I remember is that the horn ring and indicator self cancelling arrangement was different on the airbag models and it took me a while to find a boss to fit my Momo wheel.
The non-airbag wheel you have is a base polyurethane wheel used on earlier cars. The correct non-air bag wheel will be a Momo wheel, which had an eccentric boss, due to a spacer on the steering column, fitted to post-95 Roadsters and all airbagged cars.
This is the correct wheel:
Without an eccentric boss, the wheel sits too low, and rubs on the legs (you need to remove the spacer). You can fit the wheel boss from an earlier car, but you need change the clock spring parts to non-airbag parts, and take out the spacer. You then need to cut some of the indicator stalk cowl away to stop it rubbing.
Eccentric boss detail:
Non-air bag parts for 96-97 Roadster
1993 Nardi and boss fitted to 96 Roadster, with steering wheel column spacer
With spacer removed
The spacer is found between the steering column and the dash bar

Thanks m8 but all sorted i just cut back of boss on steering wheel in the pic. The wiring i think must have been a proper connector cause everything works correct airbag light comes on with ignition then goes off.
Brilliant, glad you are sorted…I know thw airbag is a safety feature ( ex fireman and all ! ), but I much prefer mine with the Nardi wooden V Special wheel
