NA Air Compressor Mk1 1.6

  1. My model of MX-5 is: Mk1 Eunos (1989) 1.6
  2. I’m based near: North East London
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Replacement Air Compressor.

The car is with a mechanic/cousin…New Clutch, Air Con (wasn’t working) and MOT
The mechanic has said the clutch in the air/con compressor is gone.
Tried calling the usual places, Autolink, MX5Heaven, MX5Parts…

Does anyone have any advice before a pull the trigger, I’ve seen a couple on eBay?

Many thanks,
Theo

Can your mechanic repair the compressor, because Rock Auto list the clutch parts

Rock Auto say that will be £94 all in, with vat and duty, shipping, and here by May 10

Now given aftermarket clutch kits are available, someone like:

Could help. I suspect they will charge £200 or so.

The risk is that yur mechanic has got it wrong, and the clutch hasn’t failed.

There are used compressors, for about £50, but they are all 30 years old. They may be no better.

The part number is NA0261450A. Discontinued by Mazda, so really you are looking at a pattern or remanufactured unit for £2-300.

Alternatively, google Miata AC delete.

Thank you, Saz…

The mechanic said to get parts, he was confident this will resolve the issue. I have ordered the parts from Rock Auto (£96).

Spoke to A C R sales and was informed that was approx £250 to refurb the A/C Compressor like you said.

Was tempted by eBay (£50) but the mechanic said you need to Rock… :+1:

Many thanks,
Theo

The parts received are not compatible with the existing AC Compressor. Should have got the car back this week…

Can you get an adaptor kit to fit a generic compressor? They are made for retro-fit applications. The compressor would obviously need to be suitably sized, and with the right size and type of pulley.

Hiya Roger,

RockAuto has asked me to send them the part number from the AC Unit so they can investigate their end.

Don’t know about kits, I see what RockAuto comes back with, might be tempted to buy a secondhand one from eBay.
