NA Mazda produced restoration parts now available in the USA

I see that Mazda is making 1100 parts available in the USA for Mk1 models, further to their recent restoration program in Japan.  It doesn’t sound like Mazda will do restorations themselves in the US, but they are making the parts available.

I’ve not looked at the list in any detail, but it would be nice if this is rolled out in the U.K. too at some point.

Not sure if the links below will work, I got them from my iPad news app.  (Edit: 1st link edited, should work now).

The list isn’t that exciting. Apparently Mazda decided they needed to get in on the remanufactured brake caliper gig. In the US, the brake caliper market is awash with tier 3 calipers from China and Mexico, and there is an acknowledgement that some are rubbish. Here, most calipers are remans, using Mazda core by highly regulated European companies (UK and Danish principally). Besides price, how will the Mazda remans be any different.

Clutch? Is it critical that its an ACT clutch, not, say, Sachs.

VPM brake pads. Is VPM a brand? I thought the OE pads were Sumitomo. And why are Pagid and Hawk pads tehre? Not resto parts.

Radio Bezel, 2 Din JDM. Interesting, as I think that refers to the tombstone made for 1996+ Japan cars. This allows flush fittinng of a standard radio, without bodgery.

Notable omissions; no parts for seats, cloth or leather. No main cabin carpet. These are the bits that wear out. Owners sitting on bobbly seats, with crumbly foam, staring at holes in the carpet, will have to waite.

None of these JDM floor mats either, though weren’t they £400 a pop in Japan?

Rich.

Not restoration parts, just parts they already had for sale

Some digging around indicates this is a bit of spin.

Mazda North America carries about 1600 part numbers for the NA. It always has done.
Mazda has reintroduced 240 part numbers, previously NLA. The “new” parts are in dark grey in the original Mazda release.

Most of the aftermarket branded brake pads listed (Hawk, Pagid) could not be sold in Europe as road pads as they are not Reg90.
