NA MODEL "NTA. No" ON THE "VIN" PLATE

on my MX5 NA model the VIN plate has the correct sequence of numbers and the Model type BUT what is the “NTA No”

What does this 7 number and 1 letter sequence relate to ? I cant seem to find out what it is.

Someone told me it was the paint code-surely not. Its at the top right hand side above the VIN number

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

National Type Approval number?

National Type Approval number?

Thats an interesting suggestion, “National Type Approval No” but is it very likely?

I would be interested to know if anyone else has the same or similar set of numbers on their NA model?

and if they have, what do they think the num.bers represent.

Curious.

Yes it is. Until about 1998 some countries had their own type approval system, UK included, later cars carry a whole of EU approval number. The manufacturers submit each new model for approval, once given, it’s stamped on every car’s vin plate. You may have heard of SVA, single vehicle approval. This was issued individually to privately imported cars, not carrying a NTA number, by way of a certificate to show they comply with UK regulations, without which you would not be able to register it in the UK.
