NA,NB,NC or ND - What is your favourite colour MX-5?

I wasn’t sure about the headlights when the ND first appeared, but now I think they look great

The instant I saw the ND I was sold, the older models didn’t really do it for me personally. That said, I think the rear can still be improved upon

That’s interesting… My only initial issue was with the headlights… I was sold from day one on the rest of the way it looks - What would you like to see different with it’s rear?

I’m not entirely sure tbh, it’s the way the boot lid sits vertically on top of an otherwise angled rear end that looks a tad weird to me, it’s a really large rear panel with a tiny boot lid perched on top, perhaps if they brought the lip of the lid further down to just above the ridge line (just above the parking sensors) which would also make the boot opening bigger and more accessible maybe it would blend more? Dunno, it’s a finicky point I admit

This is my favorite colour…

Hi Tim, My thoughts on what could be improved on the back end of the ND models Would be to put the number plate in the ‘ bland part of the rear panel in a recess . ( just above where it is on the car in the photo. And then do something with the area where the number plate sits at the moment ! Of course also in my personal preference. I’d like the whole back quite a bit wider and reduce the bulk Down a bit
i.e squash it’s bulk Just a Tiny bit But if it were slightly wider this would probably make a difference to its overall looks But it’s quite appealing as it is, Ray

Looking forward to seeing this colour in the flesh on an MX5. Deep Crystal Blue Mica

I think that the reason the ND is such a great drive is it is so small. I do feel mine is a snug fit and there is no spare space, but whilst it may look “better” being different proportions, it would change the car significantly and also put the price up, thus meaning they are going against something like a Boxster. It would need a bigger engine, bigger brakes etc etc… I had a Boxster and it was a great car, but for me I prefer the MX5 as it is smaller and lighter and retains the fun element. Unfortunately you cannot have it all…

I think that you are right in every point you make, I was just referring to the looks if the dimensions were slightly larger But you are quite right The size of the MX5 range serves the purpose that most people who buy them desire,
I have one myself I have also ( not meaning to brag ) owned Lamborghinis and Ferrari’s And my MX5 is much more enjoyable to drive … ( without the worries of financial outlay of exotic cars etc ) But I still prefer to enjoy memories of my Lamborghini (1985)
and F 512 (1979) purely For looks ‘ Etc, But both were impractical compared with the MX 5s Can’t wait for meeting to start up again …
Best regards From fellow club member …

Owned my 91 since 95, its had a couple of restorations one in 06 and full respray and rebuild in 17 I’ve been modding it ever since 06 and still love the experience of the MX drive even after 26 years of ownership.

Looks a great car. Some of the “upgrades” are very personal, but clearly it is loved, so really good to see. Hope you have been having lots of fun!

Thanks for the kind comments…for some Mx owners it’s important to want a car that every bolt is near authentic as to how it plopped off the production line. For myself that scenario would be my ultimate nightmare. In my view, my MX is an extension of my taste and personality, I wouldn’t want to drive around in an ‘authentic’ car knowing there are carbon copies floating about on the road. At 30 years of age my car frequently gets comments from car enthusiasts, particularly when I’m filling up at petrol stations. I’ve had a number of offers to buy it because of its looks, I had other members wanting to replicate and requesting a complete set of specs I often find MX fans taking pics of it in car parks…I don’t really care if it’s design is not to everyone’s taste and is the reason why I love it’s uniqueness and years of personalised modifications. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
