I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Nail in tyre
Hey folks,
Right towards the end of a nice trip this weekend I noticed a rhythmic noise coming from the rear - unsurprisingly, ended up with a nail (or similar) in the tyre.
Will post pictures below - keen to get some thoughts on whether this could be repaired, or if it’s gonna be a full replacement job?
‘2 new rears I think. Don’t really want to replace all 4 for one nail’
Hi from NB 2.5 [2005] Owner
My perfectly legal tyres kept losing pressure…it was driving me nuts…no nails…so fed up with pumping them up…loss of seal
So Feb 2022 via MX-5 O.C. Discount Voucher used Halfords ‘Tyres on the Drive’ and got all four replaced for £218.36 including wheel clean, fitting & balancing. They come to your home address
Yep they are just 195/50 R15 82V Roadhawk but no probs with loss of pressure since
It was annoying to get rid of perfectly legal tyres re depth etc
But without legal tyres …bang goes driving and passing an MOT !!
Hope this assists your decision making
Don’t know whether O.C. doing Halfords Tyres on the Drive Voucher for Members at the Moment ?
I would actually also recommend Tyres On The Drive, I had a different offer but saved significant amount on Pirelli P Zeros. The fitter was really knowledgeable and took great care with the car double and triple checking the jacking points etc.
I’ve actually tried inputting my requirements into their system. It only gives discount on three brands, none any good to me. The discount code on say Firestone didn’t work anyway unless it only works at the very point you input your payment. Didn’t get that far anyways, they also charge extra if you want a specific time slot🥴
AFAIK you can’t use an MX5OC discount card/code thought that was only in-store purchases, that’s obviously changed now though.
So the tyres I want (Kumho) are far far cheaper to buy locally but I’ll have to visit a garage 1 mile away.
Typically…since I did ‘Tyres on the Drive’ last year a new place has opened up right next door to my non-specialist mechanic a couple of miles away whereas before had to drive quite a distance
Looking on the bright side…if they stay in business I might eventually get my dream tyres
But last year had to go for ‘need’ not ‘want’
Based on your experience me finks things depend on where you live
