Here goes - with my bonus question! Suggestions please for a company to retrim a Nardi leather trim steering wheel - other option is to replace it but would have to be original kit Mk2 2000 model . . . . The leather is very matt and has lost the outer sheen in one or two places but is still usable justy naff looking - mmm this one has an airbag so advice also needed on what to do meantime - yes park it up is the obvious answer that would be reluctantly
The best course of action is to contact them via email and insert a picture of the steering wheel stating what make/model and year car it’s off. You may not get an answer straight off he tends to answer emails/queries in batches, be patient and you should get a reply. He works on the basis you send him the wheel and he gets to work on it and returns it or you can have it fitted by him. If you need to use the car meantime some members have bought SH steering wheels (same style yr model etc) and sent that off for retrim. Price well expect at least £150+ minimum +return postage.
Sometimes it may be cheaper to find a good SH wheel from that well known auction site but having yours retrimmed give you the option of having a bespoke design/colour leather and stitching…mine below.
If the leather has just flattened down, rather than worn through, its a very easy DIY fix. Clean the wheel with acetone (Furnitureclinic sell cleaner which is basically acetone). Strip down the finish with 800 wet n dry. Apply 2-3 coats of leather dye (Furniture Clinic) in black, allow to dry, apply sealer, then satin finish to tone down the gloss.
Refinished my Nardi Classico about 5-6 years ago, and the finish has help up nicely.
Depending where you are located, Transcal-uk based in Livingston, Scotland did a full leather retrim in my Honda Civic Aerodeck. I later gave them the Integra TypeR steering wheel I bought for it to be retrimmed to match interior. They did the no problem, match was perfect and the detailing to the steering wheel was amazing.
Thank you - just looked at their site, new puzzle exchange wheel won’t work as mine is totally unique and slightly different to anything seen on ebay so far The joys of MX5 life picture of mine later.
Thank you all for helpful replies - liked Royal’s exchange idea - but my wheel is slightly different to any others seen so far, damage isn’t serious so may try the cleaning trick suggested by someone The joys of a unique vehicle and MX5 ownership
Mmmm here goes for images of existing wheel - damage isn’t disasterous - may try the clean up trick posted earlier but as earlier - the wheel is bit different to all on ebay etc - no idea why the joy of MX5 life I suppose
