Does anyone have any thoughts on which model / make of satnav is best able to play nicely with a route planning app like myroute.app ?
I currently have a TomTom Go 5200. I can plan routes on the TomTom online website, but can’t get them to actually sync with my Go 5200 device (which is a tad frustrating)
Not sure if all tomtom units are the same but on the 400 motorbike units - when you plug the device in to your computer - the device comes up with “import routes” on the screen.
You tap this and it opens your tomtom up as a folder on the computer.
Now you can drag and drop routes from the computer to the device.
Thanks Deano. I’ve been trying to let it synch the routes to the device over WiFi (which it is supposed to be able to do). I’ll have to try it with the direct cable connection, and see if that works better
The whole point behind this is that the TomTom tends to route me via main roads. But when I’m driving the MX5, I’d rather travel via back roads, and “interesting” routes.
there was a long thread on this recently. Not sure in the end that there is an ideal solution, as sat navs rely on going point to point, so they need to have those points and then can vary the route between, rather than using the line of a road as such
found it! there may be some useful info in this thread,
Had another go. I installed the “MyDrive Connect” software onto my computer. Then plugged in my TomTom Go 5200. MyDrive Connect can see the device.
So far, so good
But whatever I do, I can’t get the routes that I can see in “My Routes” on the MyDrive website to transfer over to my TomTom device. And yup, I’m logged in with the same username and passwords on both the website and the device.
Thank you Martin. I think I’d spotted that thread, and I recognise the technical limitations. But there’s something more fundamental not working on my setup, I think
