NB Central locking unlocks but the immediatly locks again

When I unlock my Mk2.5 (2003), either using a key or the fob it immediately locks again. If the door is physically open when the locks operate it repeatedly tries to lock again and again.
Anyone any ideas?

Could be a damaged wire in the rubber collar between the door and body.

I would do a quick check that the lock buttons on both doors open fully when you unlock it.
If one is stuck the car will think someone is trying to lock it from inside.

Normal for them to lock again after 30 seconds after nothing has happened after unlocking ie opening the door. Is your door switch working? If it isn’t then there is nothing to tell it not to lock itself again.

This sounds like one of the locks is not fully seating on the open position. When this happens the central locking sees it the same as someone trying to manually lock one of the doors so it does the other one too. This most commonly happens when one of the motors has failed.

Have you tried manually opening the other door?

Thanks, trouble is not locking after 30 seconds it’s doing after 0.3 seconds and if the door is open the lock just starts acting like a lock machine gun locking and unlocking again forever until you shut the door where open it locks or you remove the central locking fuse.

There will be a mechanically operated switch on the doors. This is what tells the locking control unit whether the doors are locked or unlocked. Lock it and it should click over to the locked position. Unlock it and it should click over into the unlocked position. When a lock or unlock operation is performed the change in switch position tells the control unit the operation is done and the control unit removes power from the solenoid.

Here’s my theory. When you unlock the car the switch moves far enough to change the contacts over so the control unit turns off the solenoid. However the switch does move far enough to latch into the unlocked position. When the power is removed from the solenoid the switch drops back to the locked position and the solenoid relocks the doors.

Either the mechanism is misaligned or it’s gummed up with crud. Try a good spray of WD40 (other sticky, runny messy spray lubricants are available) inside the doors in the area of the locking mechanisms as a first option.

As an update I put the fuse back in for the central locking and all is OK at least for the moment. If it goes wrong again, I will try some of the trouble shooting as suggest by the people who have replied.
Thanks everyone.
