Nb hood replacement

Hi,
I know this topic has been done to death but all the topics I can find link to dead companies - including most of those in the FAQ section of this site sadly. It must be a tough field to survive in…

I’m looking for a blue mohair with glass for my 10AE.

I’m near Peterborough, but there’s nothing that close - the closest appears to be http://www.mx5works.co.uk/mx5-products but b*gger me they’re expensive compared to everything else out there at £820 fitted.

In Essex I’ve found: http://www.everythingmx5.com/roofs.php, https://allhoodsltd.com/ - though these only seem to stock NC soft tops.

If I’m willing to drive 6 hours, or take a holiday up there sometime soon, I could visit these guys in Stockport, who seem to offer a good product at a decent price: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazda-MX5-mohair-hood-top-roof-glass-hrw-Frame-Overhauled-590/281608334450

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Try Thrussington Garage in East Goscote (other side of Melton). They are a MX5 specialist, and while they won’t do the fitting themselves, they may have some recommended providers.

Can highly recommend The Soft Top Shop in Stockport, bit of a distance from P’boro but worth the effort.
This is my Blue mohair on a Mk1, Paul is very knowledgeable and fully refurbs the frame before he fits the new hood.

That’s great, thank you both. I need to think long and hard about driving 6-7 hours to get the roof replaced but I was impressed with the detail and advice on their website: especially things like not having seams on the roof.

+1 for The Soft Top Shop in Stockport. Paul came to me in Bromsgrove in Worcestershire to replace the hood on my Mk 2.5. Not the cheapest but everything was cleaned and lubricated, any rust on the frame was sorted and the rain rail checked. He even sorted the hood clamps which had a tendency to pop open before. That was 2 years ago and I’ve had no problems since. Highly recommended.

Is he any good with brakes :face_with_hand_over_mouth::smile::wink:

Any news?

I’ve PM’ed you.

I’m not sure I can face the 6-7 hour drive. The nearest equivalent I can find (in terms of quality) is these guys, who also use bonded and sewn joints, will refurb the tension wires for free, and use Twillfast mohair, which is apparently the best quality? http://www.softtops.org.uk/

Has anyone used them?
