NB Rear Window stitching coming away

Morning all!

Returning member with a new 5 - looking for a little advice. I’ve got a ‘03 Nevada and as the title suggests, the rear window stitching has come away slightly in the top left corner.

I’m based near Warrington so open to specialist upholsters/repairs or any ideas on fixing!

Happy driving!

Welcome,
Do you have a vinyl or cloth roof? Is it the original?

Thanks for the reply!

I’d hazard a guess at original, it’s cloth and the screen has the heated element built in. It’s blue not black.

Cloth is good, you may be able to find someone to take it on as a repair. However if the stitching has fallen apart in one area the rest could follow soon.
I would do a hand sewn temporary repair and look for a new after market roof in the same specification. Have a look in the owners club magazine.

Hello,

Had a similar issue with my roof, the glass rear window was coming away before eventually just falling through, mohair roof too!

In the end, as funds were tight and a temporary fix was needed, I took the glass out (weight saving :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ) and sewed in a panel from old tent fabric and haven’t had any issues. Obviously rear view visibility is a loss, but who leaves the roof up anyway?

I have left it outside in the rain before and it stayed waterproof and was cheaper than a new/ 2nd hand roof. If you want to keep it pretty and looking proper then replacement roofs aren’t that expensive

I’ve just bonded back in a second hand heated rear window in my 2002 Phoenix after the original went pop and shattered whilst using the de-mister. I’d just buy an £8.99 adhesive/sealant and bond it back into place, it’ll be every bit as strong as the original stitching…

Hi…any update, please, from the OP about a fix? I’ve got the identical problem with my '03 Sport. Thanks…

I’d just be putting some sealant on that, no need to replace anything, just glue it back in place…

Morning all

Sorry for the late reply! So…

Tried some sealant and it failed
Tried sewing it but the metal plate around the window wouldn’t sit!

It’s currently held together (when the roof is up) with some double sided tape.

I bought a replacement vinyl hood from Prestige Autotrim for about £190 inc. delivery. Full fitting instructions included which will be supplemented with YouTube advice. Looks like it’ll take about half a day.

I’ll update accordingly!

Shout if you need advice. It is not too difficult.

Thanks bud! Looking at the videos on YouTube it definitely doesn’t seem it! Just hoping for enough dry weather and motivation ha!

Dry and warm is best. Don’t panic when it is tight as a drum once closed. You will need rivets to complete it.

Yeah spoke to Cabriotech to confirm sizes and for all the kit I need!

Out of interest why did you buy a vinyl rather than mohair hood?

Honestly? It’s mainly going to be used for auto testing and occasional track use. I don’t want a pristine Sunday driver that sits at shows on summer weekend.

Not that I have anything against that at all but for me, it’s just making sure there’s a roof over my head when it gets damp!

Although Mohair is nice, you can’t see it with the roof down and I only drive on the nice days. So why not save the extra expense?

Good point.
