NB Side light change

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 98 NB
  2. I’m based near: Guildford - Surrey
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: I am wondering how on earth one would remove and change the sidelights without removing the entire headlights unit? I have tried to get my hand in there to twist it out but I just can’t twist it. Any tips? Thank you in advance

Standing in front of the bumper and crooking your arm round to hold the sidelight holder, give it a quarter turn clockwise, looking from the front, and then just pull the holder out. As it’s plastic on plastic, there shouldn’t be any excess effort needed.
If you think the NB is bad, then don’t try removing any bulbs from the headlamp shells of a Toyota Yaris Mk2. where there is next to no clearance at all!!!

Thank you for the explanation. I have a spare set of headlights so have inspected them and there is a little rubber waterproofing o-ring on bulb housing. I think that o-ring is making the plastic housing very very hard to turn. This is why i’m thinking i may have to remove the headlight. I just can’t get enough purchase on it to turn it. I did consider using pliers but don’t want to snap the twisty bit

Just done my NB sidelights (led) and headlight bulbs. Not easy to get a grip, but keep at it. Technically it’s called a bit of a pfaff
