Hi, has anyone done a diy supercharger conversion to a 1.6 nb?
I’ve got a Jackson racing charger on a 1.8 NB engine non vvt in a NA. Runs megasquirt ECU, you can see my build thread, ask away I’ll try and help
Hey Sam. Appreciate that. Am really keen to start picking bits up and maybe build it properly over winter…unless finances free up before then lol. The std 1.6 is a great little engine but needs a health shove of bhp. Prefer the linear curve that the sudden turbo rush.
Will check out your build mate.
Any advice you can offer would be amazing. Am probably going to plump for the m45 from a cooper s
Hi Sam, how do you find the noise levels on road drives? Am less concerned about track.
Think i am leaning more to SC than turbo to make it more drivable and predictable even though i know its less power …anywhere near 200bhp would be amazing either way.
Use two throttle bodies and you don’t hear the supercharger with small amounts of throttle as the bypass engages under vacuum. One pre charger and the OEM on the manifold. Mx5 is never quiet on a road trip with the road noise .
Thanks Sam…am thinking a 1.6 would make a round 20 bhp less than that? Would be using an m45 with separate ecu…intercooler…probably a 17% reduced pulley too.
Would a new manifold and decat be worth it you think?
Decat, yes, manifold, possibly, unsure on end power figures, over 180 for sure.
That would be an ideal b road and track rocket
