NB Wheel Silver Paint

Hi there, after being told that Mazda doesnt sell the colour for the NB silver wheels, is there something on the market that is very close or close enough? Wheels need a touch up but also the centre caps are on primer.

cheers

Patrick

Mazda sold these 15" wheels in at least two different silver finishes, one was more sparkly and rougher feeling than the other. Silver never touches up well, so maybe think about refinishing all 4 in 5-wheel silver.

I understand there are only a few wheel colours, Mazda silver will not be unique. Compare the cap of the spray can to your wheels.

Patrick,

Mazda never actually produced alloys.

They come from  various manufacturers like Enkie & Panasport.

Hence, there is no reason why Mazda should be able to supply codes.

As said, the best solution is to get as near to a matching shade, and refurbish.

It’s common practice to do so. It’s a pain, but it is what it is.

Just done it myself.

I have used this with great effect on my NA, could be different for NB though, cheers Rob.

Thanks all, that was mega helpful

Refurb route then! bits ordered, hopefully arrives before the Christmas Break

cheers

Patrick

Hi Rob, did you clear coat them afterwards? how long ago did you paint them and how resistant has it been? thanks a bunch!

Yes two coats of the same make of clear coat, so rotary wire brush  two primer, two silver, two clear very good finish and standing up very good, up to now, could be something to do with being VHT spray, done in March this year also the car is used regularly. So no expensive prep just time, which comes to me being a certain age, also re dyed the seats, Rob.  PS note highly customized engine removed exh heat cover only to paint with the VHT spray and has not faded or burnt off.

Looks mega, congratulations.

I will go the same route, cheers

I needed some touch up spray for my MK1, known in CNW circles as “Fifty Shades of Silver” . I wanted to match the colour surrounding the small sill repair I’d had done. I live near Chester and an internet search for “car paint supplier Chester” brought up, amongst others “mppaints.co.uk”. I took Cecelia (aka FSoS) along and the son from the Father & Son team who run this superb firm used a colour matching camera and advised me that the colour adjacent to the sill was a Mercedes colour and is miles away from the original Mazda hue!! i bought two cans of high build primer, two cans of clear lacquer and two cans of specially mixed just for me Mercedes silver top coat. Now I’ve prepped and sprayed up you can’t tell the difference, an absolutely perfect match. If you view the car under low pressure sodium lighting (do you remember the old motorway streetlights that made everything look like a shade of brown?) that is technically speaking a monochromatic light source then you can see the repair is the same colour as the rest of the wing/door/sill area. You can probably tell I’m not a detailing kind of guy, I only gave £200 for her 10 years ago and she’s had next to nothing done to her in terms of body or paintwork since. Whoever owned her before me was obviously a “bodger”, hence the FSoS moniker.

MPP mix the paint in house and supply loads of the local body shops. And no I’m not related in any way shape or form.

So long n short, a trip to an auto paint supplier, regardless of what you want to paint, is likely to get you the colour you need for a perfect match.

Cheers!
