My '07 MX5 NC1 has the original factory head unit with the factory iPod interface (quite useless as it doesn’t even charge the iPod). I don’t want to change the head unit as I like the aesthetics of keeping the interior stock, so an aftermarket head unit is a big NO.
Any recommendations on a wired bluetooth solution? I’ve used Parrott devices on other cars and found them to be really good, I don’t want a display so maybe the CK9000 would be OK? Doesn’t need to do bluetooth calling as the car is too noisy to make calls anyway.
Don’t right off the factory option too quickly. I’ve got an old iPhone 4S (or something) that works with Apple music and although it doesn’t seem to charge it, and you can’t control it from the in car controls, it does seem to maintain charge. Works really well for my purposes. iPod touch (2nd Gen from memory) seemed the same but couldn’t use Apple Music. I spent a lot of time over lockdown trying to find the best option. Got a lot of used Apple devices kicking around now.
Easy cheap and works a treat option. You can even use it in other cars as well!
I have all my music on a memory stick rather than on the phone and this also works with one of these as well although not as fully functional as on a phone.
This would also do what you want.I used one in my NC and the aesthetic fits in better.Have subsequently had a double DIN head unit installed and despite the change to the look I must admit it’s a much more modern solution with direct access to Spotify, sat nav etc.
Sorry to sound less than enthusiastic but it’s really not something I want sticking out of my dashboard. I might use it on a hire car for a week, but not in my car.
I do not want to change the look of the car at all, no head unit change. There’s a Connects 2 device that plugs into the back of the radio and is hidden behind the dash for just £35. Think that’s the solution for me.
Like you I had the iPod dock with 30 pins, in the glove box, also like you I wanted Bluetooth for Music from iTunes, amazon music, and Spotify. I also did not want to have anything visible and if possible to keep the steering wheel buttons for track advance etc. so I went with a Bovee 1000. however, as has been pointed out the “OlD” 30 pin dock does not have sufficient power to charge iPod,phone and the Bovee so I also added a cable jack to sort the power issue. along with the Bovee 1000, I have everything I wanted including keeping the steering wheel controls all hidden in the glovebox.
When installed the round style adaptor is barely visible and needs no trailing leads or messing with the car at all. You can, and probably should, remove it when not in use to discourage the low life elements from taking an interest in your cars contents.
No sign that anything has been added to the car, uses the steering wheel controls and you can hide the microphone in the factory position, also has a USB charging point and aux in. They do another version that doesn’t do handsfree calling at half the price so I may just go for that one.
I have bought and installed this one, which works great. Nothing visible from the outside, press the media button and connect. Feels like OEM. I connected the 12V cables to the back of the cigarette lighter socket by removing the pins from its plug, bending them open slightly and basically crimping them together with the 12V wires from the Bluetooth unit, using a pair of pliers. I have wedged the microphone between instrument panel and steering wheel with its cable hidden behind the interior trim.
Whilst I understand where you’re coming from as the pic below shows the size and shape fit in quite well and as an easy fit/removable solution it’s hard to beat.
