I need to repair/replace my 2.0 NC engine, so interested to hear about complete engines or parts to repair the one I have with bottom end rattle.
Hello MX5_Keith
Contact Roddisons Motorsport Sheffield S9 1US 0114 244 5300 ask for Paul.

Hate to say it but depending on the condition and value of the car once rebuilt it may well be uneconomic to even think about rebuilding the engine even if you do it yourself. Even if you fit a used engine you risk the same problem happening again unless you are very careful and know exactly what you are looking for. Give Paul a call and take his advice and the probable costs. I think you may well be disappointed but you never know.
I’ve already heard all there is to hear on how it costs £2k to rebuild this engine, you can buy second hand for under £1000 but it’s only a few miles away from needing a rebuild anyway etc.
The car is a project, a toy, a play thing so while the finances do come in to it, I’m not trying to build something that’s a mint example because I already have another one which is a mint example.
I’m really only interested in hearing about parts to repair, just want to know what’s out there?
If money is not a factor then Nippon Autospares in Derby can supply and fit a 2.5l engine for £2999. Not sure if they will just supply an engine and associated parts if you want to diy.
£3k is 5 times what I paid for the car, so I don’t think I’ll be paying someone else to do that, if there was enough documentation available I may consider doing it myself. I’ve also read of a 2.3 conversion on some US forums as well as LS conversions, there are lots of possibilities although I haven’t read of any Zetec conversions, odd because it’s such a cheap, tuneable and readily available engine, I’m sure there’s a really good reason for this!
I have a high miler duratec sat in the shed, just south of Edinburgh, which you can have for £100. I can’t warranty it as I’ve never had it running- I bought it for my own car then I found a mazda 6 with the 2.5 locally for buttons so now it’s spare.
You can see the auction where I bought it from Scorpracing here:
I’ve stripped off the belt, tb and accessories since just for storage reasons, still has injectors rail and plugs. You’d want to inspect it at least and it’ll need some of your old bits as it’s a mondeo fitment.
Obviously it’s not a dream engine But, it is buttons and it should work.
I don’t think the Ford engine is directly interchangeable, due to differences in the bellhousing, you need an adaptor plate. You’re also a bit far from me.
The one thing I can’t get definitive information on is how much of the Ford/Mazda engine internals are interchangeable. My block has FoMoCo cast on the side, so is it just the block or is the whole engine built by Ford?
