NC 2.0 or 1.8?

I am looking for an NC and two cars have caught my eye. Both appear rust-free, difficult to find one these days. One is a Niseko, silver, 1.8 while the other is a black 6-speed 2.0. Given the choice which one would you prefer and why? Thank you in anticipation of your replies. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202406261134667?fromSavedAds=true&advertising-location=at_cars&sort=relevance&postcode=tn22%201hf https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202407031390129?fromSavedAds=true&advertising-location=at_cars&sort=relevance&postcode=tn22%201hf

I went with a 2.0 sport - decided it had more to offer than a 2.0 SE or a 1.8 SE
6 speed gearbox
Leather seats & heated seats
Air con
Limited slip diff
Bose stereo

I’d buy on condition, especially as to rust on the underside.

I’d buy on condition also but would choose a 2 litre variant.

Yes, same here - a good rust-free, low-mileage example is always favourite, I think. The most recent NC is going to be almost 10 years old now, so rust is always a prime concern.

Having said that, you can never have too many horses !

I went for the 2.0 simply because it made more sense. Had read about oil starvation and consumption problems which affected both but to me it seemed more apparent in the 1.8.

I had this conundrum when buying from new a few years back, 2007 I think. Tried both 2.0 litre and 1.8 and the 1.8 won hands down for the simple reason it had the 5 speed gearbox. Just could not get on with 6 speed and still dont like them to this day.

2.0 SE also has a 5 speed box

Only the 2.0 sport got the 6 speed

Didn’t know that, thanks for the info.

The later (NC2’s) Kendo and Miyako coupe models have 5 speed boxes too.

I got the impression that the oil usage then starvation issues are more prevalent on the 1.8 than the 2.0. Might be wrong - but that seemed what was reported a year or so back.

I’m unsure of the oil thing, someone may have a comparison?
I was buying a MK3 (my first) and in comparison the advice engine wise, go for the 2 litre. Reason they are more desirable and in turn easier to sell on if and when you get to that point.
Probably opening up a can of worms here but just my opinion and from someone in the trade who buys and sells these cars everyday, took his advice.:+1:

This was the impression I got.

I test drove a 1.8 and found it adequate for my requirements, however, I preferred the look of the 2.0 Sport, with the 17" wheels, leather interior and 6 speed box.
I’ll be honest though, I wouldn’t have a black car for a gold pig.
Ive been there and done that.
Horrible to keep clean, and awful with paint swirls.
A clean car looks mucky again in half an hour.
