I need to remove mine, the fasteners are really odd. A round hole with three small grooves in. I’ve not been able to buy a special driver but have managed to get the ‘screws’ to turn, but nothing unscrews. Is there a nut at the back of the grill? It’s difficult to get at the back. Perhaps I can remove the undertray?
Any ideas or members that have managed to remove the plinth that could offer help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Steve
Are the two fixings you described made of steel or aluminium.
I have a MK3.5, I removed the front number plate plinth to make it easier to fit a Zunsport Grill.
The number plate plinth on my car was held on with two aluminium pop rivets (with large diameter heads) I drilled a few mm down the centre of the rivet and chopped the rivet head off with a small chisel.
I re-fitted the plinth using self tapping screws.
Thanks for that, yes they could well be pop rivets.
Most likely rivets. Remember all too well removing the front square plinth off my Mk2 import, held on with 5 rivets. talk about overkill on fixings.
