NC aftermarket Calipers?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __ NC1 2006 2.0
  2. I’m based near: __
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __

Anyone used these calipers.

Can’t find any info as to where they are produced.

Seems cheap to also include carriers ?

Too much on to find time to recon my originals so I’m after an alternative.

Thoughts / advice most welcome

I bought some from Ebay, looks like those and included brackets. (At a bargain price). But the brackets were threaded for wrong bolts so ended up using my old ones with the new sliders. Too late to return when in bits
Still working fine but not 100% as described Yours may be different, my garage ordered mine so I’m not sure if these are exactly the ones. Can’t be more help I’m afraid, cheers, Marc

I put a set of RX8 calipers on the front, with Mintex high performance pads. Great feel and stopping power. Used on many track days without issue.

Plenty of 2nd hand ones on ebay.

If you are handy with the spanners - I can highly recommend the Frentech rebuild kits.

£87 gets you all the parts to do all 4 calipers

Yeah I’ve used them before to rebuild 4 pot brembos on my Merc.

As I’ve a big list of “too do’s” this winter I was after a straight swap out.

Are they a larger caliper ? A direct fit ?

I’m running standard 16" wheels ?

I’ve bought new pads already (Cosworth Street master) presume these would be of no use in RX8 calipers ?

Fitted these last year. No problems at all.

I brought the frentech service kits , but was surprised when I stripped the fronts down to find them in good condition , the pistons still very shiny and undamaged. The problem was the outer seal which has a spring in it , the spring had corroded and made the piston very tight. It only needed new seals (just a few £’s) and was easy to fit.

£115 , £145 or Mazda originals? If it was the rear calipers I’d chance on the cheap option but on the front?
I’d make the time for a rebuild if the fronts are original.

Personally, from experience ,I would not rebuild ever again. The front calipers are most susceptible to corrosion and if they have failed that would be the reason and a professional refurb would be needed, not a DIY.
I bought aftermarket replacements 2 years ago for about £50 each and they are working absolutely fine .

Fair point. Up to the OP. Maybe go off-piste with some of those swish upgrades that are being discussed currently🙂

I’m running 17in rims, I doubt they will fit under 16in. They dont use the same pads as the OE calipers.

Just bought 2 Febi calipers for the front, with Febi fitting kit and Apec sliders from CarPartsInMotion. With the ebay code valid until 9th Jan it came to £113.60. There were cheaper caliper options from other brands but I’ve used Febi parts for years and found them fine. Once the old ones are off, I may rebuild them in case they’re needed in future. It was £50 for Mazda sliders, or £20 for the Apec kit.

I’d cleaned the sliders a few weeks ago but took the car out tonight and had one pulling to the left again, so both are being replaced this weekend.

Thanks for reply.
I have already bought the apec pins some time back in readiness for caliper swap.
Seems pretty good quality :+1:

So I think I’m going Febi or Blue print from Bofi racing.

Used Febi parts before …no complaints.

Blue print from Bofi have a 3 year warranty.

I ve also spoke with mx5 parts who seem pretty confident their after market calipers are also well capable of the job in hand

Thanks for all replies.

3 year manufacturers guarantee with the Febi from CarPartsInMotion too, *£40.86 each with ebay discount. Never sure how reliable these guarantees are however.

I’ve got Apec calipers on my NC. They’ve been on there 3 years so far with no problems.

Hi, I purchased a front set of Blueprint from BOFI and they are great, fitted easily and performance has been super. Cost was around £127 all in for the pair

Just bought one off Ebay for £49.99 delivered. Arrived within 2 days and looks good quality. Fits and works fine. Cheaper than a refurbished one at my local motor factors which I’d bought previously.
