in short, because the mx5 nc boot lid is heavily reinforced so as to be able to carry a rack or boot bag.
it makes it almost impossible to fit this type of spoiler without tearing the boot lid apart.
so it looks like i will have to go with the mx5 parts one.
I’ve seen similar fitted to the boot lid of an NC, TBH not impressed with how it looked.
Sometimes you see cars and think, yes that looks OEM and how it should look, the one I saw looked awkward and just didn’t look good on the eye.
chances are that he either had to fit it too far forward or too far due to the way the boot lid is constructed.
or he just got the wrong one.
I guess you could get around the boot lid issue by fitting a carbon fiber boot lid that doesn’t have all the extra reinforcement!
I went down this road because i wasn’t happy with the spoilers that are available and when I saw these were just £80 I was willing to spend that plus a little extra for fitting to find out, and be a guinea pig for the club on this issue.
but continuing down this route would get expensive, certainly more expensive than the mx5parts spoiler.
lets face it id be lucky if i could get a carbon boot lid for less than £400 then i gotta pay £80 for the spoiler and then 2 to 3 hundred for fitting and spraying. which leaves me looking at £800 in costs and no guarantee it would like right!
so that’s it. it ends here.
thanks for keeping an eye out mate.
I’m looking for a more traditional wing spoiler (not one of those great big GT wings that the boy racers put on).
I’ve got my eye on the one on mx5 parts but right now I have other financial responsabilitys.
I finally got to see the MX5PARTS spoiler on a car at the rally on Sunday.
and now that I have seen one fitted i have finally made up my mind and will be ordering one in the next couple of weeks.
on a side note, I was rather surprised to find that virtually none of the NC’s that attended the OC rally on Sunday had boot spoilers.
I’ve not bought the spoiler from Rev9 but, I have purchased other items from them.
I can say communication was great, kept me updated on delivery time, I was pleased with my purchases, be prepared to pay import taxes.
Overall if its what you want/ like go for it, Rev9 are good.
Opted for front lip and diffuser from BOFI racing in the end. I wasn’t 100% convinced that the cost of a single spoiler was a worthwhile endeavour at this point. See how the car looks after the other bits are added.
