NC Brake Pads Recommendation

Guys, going to need new front brake pads on my 2014 2ltr Sport Venture.

Anyone got a recommendation for the best pads to get?

The genuine Mazda ones are quite expensive and I can get EBC ones cheaper. Has anyone tried the EBC Red, Green or Yellow?

Grateful for any advice.

If you do not do track days any set of pads will do.

People will pay lots of money on pads who do not do track days and say “I’m very pleased with these £60 pads”, yes and the £25 pads would do the same job but they are not good enough.

Just buy any pads from a reputable supplier unless you are a track day person.

+1 .  I’m on Mintex pads with new discs - ÂŁ115 for the front & rear kit…very pleased with both the price and performance.

Happy with my new Pagid pads front and rear.

Thanks for the replies guys. I’d seen the Mintex pads and they are about a third of the price of the OEM Mazy pads. Might just save the pennies and get these.

+1 for Pagid.  Fitted many sets of Pagid discs and pads (from Eurocarparts) and more than happy with performance and life.

I took the hit and bought Mazda pads, the reason why, just about zero dust.

Other manufactures could learn a bit from them.

I recently went for Brembo discs and pads all round from Eurocarparts - I think it was about ÂŁ160 total but made a huge transformation from the crappy old set that were on the car prior to my purchase.

I once worked at a Motor Factors who sold Mintex and Jurid. We had numerous complaints about Jurid pads blackening the wheels, never the case with Mintex who were also a great company to deal with.

The Mintex pads on my MX are certainly a lot less dusty than the ones they replaced, whatever they were. Probably not Mazda originals.

Another vote for Brembo , replaced on my Mk 3.5 and every bit as good if not better braking compared to original . If you can plan the work you will find regular offers from Euro car parts

Hadn’t considered Brembo but might be worth checking out. Ta.

Don’t rule out Eicher from EuroCarParts.

Maunufactured by TMD friction in the UK who are incidentally Mintex.

Mintex maufacture OEM brake parts.

Scroll down the page a paragraph.  https://mintex.com/products/?lang=en-aus

Probably good news as these were previously made in India.  Maybe poor feedback has pushed ECP to change the source.  A friend with a very high mileage Golf got me to fit a set of  Eicher pads and discs a few years ago and they were in a truly dreadful state in a very short time.   He reverted to Pagid.  Don’t forget Eicher is still marketed as a budget brand.  Can you be sure they the same as a Mintex branded  product?  Look for the ECP sales and you’ll probably get Pagid/Mintex for Eicher money.  Also look at Car parts 4 Less - same company as ECP but sometimes cheaper and they have sales too.

I got pads from Rodders when he sorted my brakes - not sure what they are

They have good feel on the pedal and are not too dusty - way better than whatever was on there before them

Ive Eicher disks and pads all round on mine.

It will stop on a sixpence, and pull your face off if youre not careful.

I’ve had Genuine Mazda, Greenstuff, and Rodders pads on a couple of 5s.

Roddisson’s pads are definitely the best of the lot. Much better stopping power compared to OE pads. I’d wholeheartedly recommend them.

Greenstuff were the worst pad I’ve ever had on any car, ever.

Yellowstuff are fine - I ran them on an Elise S2 for a year, but you might as well go with Rodders’ pads if you want the best…!

After the comment from my local garage, who fitted Mazda pads to the front of my NC first time around (“Oh dear, these are a bit pricey”), I just let him fit his usual offerings next time around and to the backs - Brembo I think.

He’s been fitting them to our cars for years, and Brembo discs when needed (not so far on the MX5), been perfectly happy with them.

He knows his stuff - does a lot of work for a local classic Lotus dealer and often has something exotic in the workshop.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Ended up going for the genuine Mazda pads. Friend of mine can get the Mazda pads at trade price. Works out at about £65 for the fronts.
