Hi all! I’m aware my brakes are starting to look a little worse for wear and, as I’ve not had the car all too long, I’m thinking of changing over the discs and pads and wondered whether these would suffice;
£161 so not much more than those on eBay. I can certainly recommend these. Been absolutely fine on mine. Unfortunately, it looks like they’re out of stock at the moment. Then again, if you’re going to the Spring Rally and can wait the extra couple of weeks, MX5 Parts will be there and may have some special deals for members on the day.
That’s great, thanks for the prompt responses all! As for Eurocarparts, is it worthwhile going for the Brembo over Eischer and Pagid brakes? I can do all 4 corners, with their current discount code (30%) for £180+delivery.
Edit: there’s one ECP shop around the corner from me with all Brembo parts in stock. Therefore, can do for £180 total.
I fitted new rear discs and pads to all four corners supplied by Eurocarparts last year. Eicher brand, IMO, very good value! its personal preference though. My old rear discs looked very tatty, the new ones very smart braking ( for me ) is excellent.
I fitted front and rear Brembo pads over the weekend bought from Eurocarparts for about £51 using the online discount code, the discs were fine. Got a good price on the caliper piston winding in tool at £6 delivered, used it on the front too. And while I’m on a roll 600mls of brake cleaner from Screwfix for just £3.75, I already had the correct lube.
Delphi are a world wide automotive component supplier, who were spun out of GM. Bit of a confused history (look at Wikipedia), but fine OE quality.
Personally I tend to go to Eurocarparts and buy Pagid (or other OE quality stuff). Personal opinion, I’d avoid ‘Eicher’ which is their own brand Indian made stuff. Pal put a set of these pads and discs these on the back of his Golf and the discs and pads were in awful condition in a year. We’ve used Pagid discs and pads on that car several times (over 250k miles - he does a lot of miles) and they’ve been excellent. You pays your money…
I’d also say invest in a caliper winding back tool for rear brakes. Well worth its money! Not worth b*****ing about without one. Just use a G clamp or bar clamp to push the front pistons back, but don’t push brake fluid out of the master cylinder when you do it.
Thanks JS. I’m sure I recognised Delphi as the OEM manufacturer for Renault brakes, as my previous car was a Clio. I vaguely remember them being used for Fords which goes hand-in-hand with your GM comment.
I think I’ve got to weigh up whether I’ll be getting £60 more value out of Brembo vs Delphi, or £20 more out of Brembo vs Pagid. I’m veering towards going with the higher end of the marque, and I can voice my opinions on them in due course. To be frank, anything is better than what’s currently on there…
Thanks once again, all. I’ll be looking at a calliper winding tool but I’m almost certain guys in work have one (they have everything and more - one is keen on rallying). If he doesn’t, I’ll get one then.
