NC dash warning lights

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2011 2.0 Sport Tech
  2. I’m based near: Glasgow
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Dash warning lights

Not long back from a drive to the shops; on the way there the ABS, traction control, and handbrake lights all came on. The car didn’t feel any different to drive, and the lights haven’t come back on since turning the car off and on again. I don’t suppose anyone has ever had this happen, or can think of what the issue might be? I’m thinking potentially a wheel position sensor on its way out? I think I’ve got an OBD reader somewhere in the house, so I’ll see if I can get any error codes from the car.

I did a search before posting, but the only result was from 2015 and didn’t have any replies!

Thanks in advance.

Found my OBD reader, there aren’t any codes stored. Maybe it was just a weird glitch?

My Check engine light appeared yesterday afternoon for no apparent reason.

I think it was due to me replacing head unit without disconnecting battery.

She still ran fine although I took it steady on way home.

Disconnected battery for a few minutes, hey presto gone. Sat with 2000rpm for 3 minutes to reset ecu.

Today Ive done around 60 miles without any re-occurance of light.

At least you have a rough idea why your check engine light came on! I was working on my car yesterday, but only to seal the scuttle grommets, so nothing that involved interfering with anything electrical. Hopefully it was just a one off, and doesn’t happen again!

Does she idle ok, steady not searching for revs ?

Absolutely fine, didn’t notice any difference at all!

Like you stated earlier… a glitch hopefully

Fingers crossed!

Maybe it was damp having got past the scuttle gaskets before you sorted them, then it dried out with driving it.

Hopefully it’s just something silly like that. The design of the scuttle grommets is a bit strange, don’t know why they didn’t use a rubber gasket! Using a foam one was just asking for trouble.

Remove the plastic cover from the passenger footwell fuse box and see if you have any signs of moisture.

I’ll have a look tomorrow when it’s light. :+1:

This way I’ve got something to look forward to tomorrow! :joy:

Hi, those symptoms can occur with a low battery. I have had them a few times when allowing it to get too low. (Bad owner - must check the battery conditioner is actually switched on). Stability control resets when I do a full left, full right steering movement and ABS re sets on re start.
Same in my Mercedes SLK. (Very bad owner - or I just need to get out more).
Maybe doors open, interior light on for a while just drained the battery a bit too far.

I’ve only had the car since December, so apart from the Mazda online service history, I don’t know too much about it. Could potentially be the battery, it’s not like I can drive it as much as I’d like at the moment!

You shamed me into checking the fuse box! Water has definitely been getting past the scuttle grommet.

I knew it would get the better of you  nothing unusual in finding the yellow peril in that location.

Indeed and the designers thoughtfully placed the fusebox directly in the path of any water leaking in as a result of the inevitable failure of the biodegradable gaskets while they were at it.
How’s that for foresight??

Maybe it was a commercial decision, and they were hoping to rake it in supplying new fuse boxes!
