Hi
Just getting round to doing the fluids and I’m after the washers. I’ve read you need M18 x 25mm aluminium but struggling to find these.
Am I over thinking things we sell 18M x 22mm copper washers at work will these do the trick??
If not could someone point me in the right direction without going to dealers.
No a washer is never M anything that is for nuts and bolts. It may be to suit M17 bolts etc.
Yes any copper or aluminium washer ID 18mm by say 25mm OD and the OD is not an issue is what to use.
Unless you have a 5 speed gearbox and in that case the filler plug is a 14mm external square and you use PTFE tape to seal that plug.

My oils and washers came this morning from MX5parts but they were cheap aluminium and not copper, but still £1 each.
Copper will be far superior so I think you should set up a supply chain for all of us.
Obviously as this is my idea then mine will come at a significant discount. ![]()

I’ve often wondered why (I can’t remember which one for which though)they specify a copper washer and aluminium washers on the drain and fill plugs on the diff and maybe the gearbox too?
Well I can buy these from work £4

Would they do.
Don’t want to order from MX5 parts and waste first order customer discount until I need something major.
They will do but do you need that many.
That’s the smallest bag size we do, so will get them anyone want’s to send me a self addressed envelope with a £1 in I will post them 4 out.![]()

I acquired this item from ebay in May and it did the job for my diff.
If you go down this route then I have saved you a whole 21 pence ![]()
Thanks, but will pay 21 pence more knowing I can do the fluid change another 25 times![]()

Changing the subject slightly, our friends do seem to like unusual nut sizes.
One plug in the diff is 24mm (drain) across the flats and the other is 23mm (fill) neither of which I have a socket/ring for.
However, forty some odd years ago when still in my teens I lashed out three weeks wages on a Kamasa 1/2" drive socket set.
As well as a set of A/F to 1-1/8", metric to 22mm, it had 8 whitworth sockets, 3/16" to 5/8".
The 1/2" whit is a snug fit on the 24mm plug and not too slack on the 23mm. Result. ![]()
I’ve finished dripping now so time to squirt the new stuff in.

Pretty sure I used copper crush washers on my sister’s NC gearbox and diff and it hasn’t been a problem…
