NC gearbox and differential gear ratios

Hi chaps

I want to do a calculation and i need my 2 L 2010 NC sport 6 speed gearbox gear ratios and LSD final drive

I had a go with searching the forum and the internet.

I found these two sources and i believe I’m fine with the gearbox ratios but not with the LSD.

https://www.mx5nutz.com/threads/diff-ratios.35208/

The above sources note an LSD value of 3.7 and 4.1 but I’m not really sure which is the right one. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks

3.7 for a 6 speed, 4.1 for a 5 speed…

It says that on both links does it not…?

Somehow must have missed that bit. Thanks for confirming

A 6 speed box with a 4.1 diff is a spirited drive

That would mess with the rpm and cruising speed though if you use the car everyday it be a bit of a pain

Makes it spirited through the gears and 3mph differences at same RPM in 6th

Speedo reads off abs sensors so no issue there

Will the 2.0 reach 60 in 2nd with that diff on ?

Not quite 3mph
and probably even if you go on the readline at 7300 it wont.

Would a later NC2 with its 7750 redline fare better in this regard. After a weekend in both my NC and my friends ND30, it was clear his gearing was a lot shorter! It was great on track!

Honestly imho driver and his consistency on lap times and shifting gears would make a bigger difference if you compare the two cars driven by two different drivers

ND2 (30th Anniversary)

             7,000rpm 7,500rpm

1st 34 36
2nd 57 61
3rd 84 90
4th 107 115
5th 133 143
6th 171 183

Rev 36 39

This assumes new tyres.

Thank you… its an interesting option, as I do find the manual NC a little longer geared than ideal. Seems like a 4:1 would still not be horrible on motorway in 6th.

Has anyone ever swapped the OEM LSD to a 5-speed differential ? I have a differential with LSD from a 6-speed laying around but don’t want to make my car slower with that longer FD in the differential, so I’d want to put the LSD in a 5-speed differential.
