- My model of MX-5 is: 2011 2.0l SE 5 speed
We previously owned a NB where the handbrake is on the left side of the centre console. But on our new (to us) 3.5 NC it sits on the right.
I’m 6.1’ and have the seat all the way back. Even then there’s not much space between the handbrake and the wheel and consequently the handbrake presses in to my left leg when operating the clutch. It’s not particularly painful, but I really wish it wouldn’t do it nonetheless.
I notice the brake handle isn’t dead straight, but sits slightly to the right of the console. So I was wondering if there’s an aftermarket version that is more straight?
The jass aftermarket brackets can be used to lower the seat in the nc. Moving yourself further back and down will help with the handbrake digging into your leg. This chap had the same issue (1-2 min in to the video)
I had exactly this issue, and remedied it by bending the handbrake lever back towards the centre of the car. Surprisingly easy to do and caused me no issues! Your call obviously but it worked for me. If you pull off the handbrake gaiter and grip you’ll see the bit you are bending, it’s the handle not the mechanism itself.
Thanks ckleanth, but my wife will also be driving it and she is quite short. She already has to have the seat elevated to have a full view out.
Yep, that seems like a good option, I’ll give it a go.
Thanks:-)

The seats are still adjustable so you can still move the seat up and down, all you do is reduce the lowest point by 1.5"
Unless she moves the seat all the way up to see outside she should still be able to drive it (i think)
And totally agree the jass brackets are great, I’ve had them in 2 5’s now and wouldn’t be without them
