So I’ve been monitoring coolant temperature on my 2006 2.0 Mk3 and it seems that the fan cuts in at 100degsC and runs until the temp has dropped to around 92degsC. Does that seem about right? If I’m honest I was expecting it to run a bit cooler, but that’s mainly based on my experience with Mitsubishi evos.
The Mazda service docs available via the Mellens website list the following for the NC:
"Thermostat initial-opening temperature: 80-84°C {176-183°F}
Thermostat full-open temperature: 97°C {207°F}
Thermostat full-open lift: More than 8.0 mm {0.31 in}"
Very helpful, thanks. So a trigger temp if 100degC for the fan to operate does seem about right.
By the way, the temp Is as read is via an OBD reader which I assume to be pretty accurate.
Should be reasonably accurate but probably around 3 to 4C either way according to some instrument people that I know. In that industry all instruments and transducers are checked in their test shed before installation.
In saying that, it appears to be accurate in this case if the cooling system is not going through coolant. Well done Mazda.
