NC Immobiliser

As I understand it, my hazards are supposed to flash when I lock the car, and there should be a red light on the dash showing the anti-theft is armed.

Well the car locks, but no hazards, and no red light.  So I assume one of the door switches is at fault.  However, both courtesy light switches work, as does the boot light switch.  Are there different micro-switches that tell the anti-theft system the doors are closed?  If so, where are they?  And is there a bonnet switch too?

TIA

Reading around the subject it seems that the bonnet switch is the only untried piece of the system, so if it ever stops raining, I’ll go and see what I can see.

Does the red dash light flash when the car isn’t armed/locked?

It is a UK spec car isn’t it?

Not sure.  I don’t think so.

Yes, a UK-spec 2.0 Niseko PRHT.

In fact, there is a red light flashing when it’s unlocked.  RHS of the oil pressure gauge.  Looks .ikeaside-viewof a car.  I think that’s “Security Indicator Light”?

I’ve looked in the Owners Manual, and that doesn’t expain why it flashes when unlocked and the ignition off.

I was only asking as if it does at least you know it’s operating correctly, the bulb that is. It should flash in the oil pressure gauge, it’s pretty obvious every 2 secs approx when not armed.

Yes, the bulb works

So it flashes every two seconds when not armed.  I thought it was supposed to flash every to seconds when it IS armed?  TBH, it’s the hazard flash that I want, because without it, I can’t tell if the car locked or not unless I stand right next to it to hear the locks engage.

Assuming the courtesy light switches are part of the alarm circuit (and, having looked at the wiring diagram, it seems they are), then they aren’t the problem, which leaves the bonnet switch.

Am I right in my understanding of how the system is supposed to operate?

Lock car with remote

Hazards flash (once? three times?)

Red light on dash flashes every 2 seconds.

Unlock car with remote

Hazards flash (?)

Red light on dash stops/doesn’t stop flashing?

Do I have to double-lock it or anything?

The red light (padlock symbol) on the dash will flash whenever the key’s removed from the ignition, regardless of whether the car’s locked or not - the light relates to the immobiliser, not to the alarm.

If the red light continues to flash when cranking or when the engine’s running, that indicates a fault with the immobiliser.

Ok, I’ve had another play.

Went to car, no flashing light.
Unlocked car, security light in oil gauge flashes.
Get in car, light flashes
Turn on ignotion, light goes solid.
Crank and start car, light goes out.
Get out of car and lock it. No lights.
Unlock amd then double-lock (two presses on lock button within 3 seconds), security light illuminates, and then starts to flash every 2 seconds. Yay.

So it all seems to work (I just didn’t kmow about the double locking thinv), except my hazards don’t flash.
Why not? Thaf’s the bit I want!

Presumably if I’m on a ferry or something, then just pressing the lock button once will not arm the alarm?

Right; more research. According to the manual, if armed, the alarm should sound when I unlock one of the doors with the key. Mine doesn’t, which means it isn’t armed, and that brings me back to the door/boot/bonnet switches.

Assuming that the courtsey lights working indicates the switches are functioning correctly, then it has to be the bonnet switch that’s at fault.

I’m sick of getting rained on this afternoon, so that will have to wait until tomorrow.

Mine does this (07 plate sport)

Lock car, one flash from the indicators, unlock car, two flashers from indicators.

If the boot is opened when the car is locked/armed when the boot lid is then closed the indicators flash once. An abnomally with this is it doesn’t always do this??

Plus,  unlock the car (with the fob) without actually opening a door and the car will self lock after about 20-30 secs.

Which is what mine should do, I think.

Right, this was an easy fix in the end, and very much a case of Occam’s Razor. I bypassed the bonnet switch, and the system now works as it should.

Hazards flash once on double-locking and twice on unlocking. I suspected this was the culprit all along and, had it not been raining yesterday, I’d have tried it, and not bothered wasting everyone’s time on here

Took me a while to get round to it today, because this morning I installed a new DAB and Bluetooth head unit.

Thanks everyone for your input.
