NC NC2 NC3 NC3.5 diff differences

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2008 NC 2.0 6 speed
  2. I’m based near: Hampshire
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: NC NC2 NC3 NC3.5 diff differences

Hi,
Something felt like it momentarily grabbed a rear wheel at Bedford last weekend. Half a lap later and the diff got really noisy (whine only), although no worse after a 2.5 hour drive home.
I swapped the oil, which was only slightly glittery, but no difference to the sound.
I intend to swap the diff. Can anyone tell me if all the diffs are the same from a 2.0 manual 6 speed regardless of year or type of NC, please? Mine is a 2008 with I believe a 3.7 LSD
Thanks

I believe that they are…

Try MX5 Parts, they’re really helpful.

All the same
Only difference is ratio 5 or 6 speed

Funny thing is I found out the 6 speed final is longer than the 5 speed. I thought I would do a 1:1 swap of the LSD diff from a 6 speed on my 5 speed but will have to change final drive first I guess

Personally my preference is a 6 speed box and a 5 speed (4.1-1) diff

Sounds ace but for a driveway technician and the money a 6-box costs that’s a bit too far fetched for me. But I do agree, that’s what I’d do too. Shorter gears ftw.

Thanks @rodders , I may well source a diff from a 5 speed instead!
