what should the oil pressure gauge read on a warm NC 2 litre on tick over? I have seen some where the gauge is reading right at the bottom of the scale.
There is no specified reading that the gauge will display, as long as it is in between the low and high level then it’s fine. See the Owners Manual for specific information on this.
The gauge position is set according to the presence of oil pressure (oil pressure switch), the engine temperature and the engine speed. The gauge is not representative of actual oil pressure, just a simulated reading.
Thanks for that Robbie. On the one I looked at the other day, there were 10 marks on the gauge between L and R. The engine was normal temp on tick over and the gauge was only on the first mark above L.
As Robbie said it is within the range sorry but that is as far as it goes on the supplied guage.
On tickover and at lower revs it shows towards the bottom, going vertical and over to the right at higher speeds, on my 2007 1.8.
The meter is a dummy - it shows what the pressure should be if the engine is in good nick!
So if you are buying a used example and are planning on relying on the pressure gauge for information - don’t!
Basically follow the owners handbook, if the pressure gauge shows zero its like the oillight coming on, otherwise its OK and best ignored. Unless you are going uphll in too high a gear - change down until the engine revs show a decent pressure!
