NC rattles

Is there anyone out  there who can help me find the source of annoying bangs and rattles from the back of my 2006 NC soft top? The car has been into 2 dealers and a specialist and they have been unsuccessful. It seems like I am carrying sacks of empty cans in the boot on even a moderately bumpy road. Any help in tracing the noises would be gratefully received. Tel 07 802 863 933 for an appointment to ride and listen. Ian.

A common cause of knocking noises over bumps is often caused by worn drop links. Did the dealer check these ? Also, make sure the jack & tool kit are secured properly and the exhaust heat shield hasn’t come adrift.  Any one of these will cause tinny rattles.

Hi,

Not saying this is your problem but it was mine and I believe it’s a common source of a annoying rattle from behind

the seats where the trim panel  meets the bottom self with the easy fix using a bit of pipe insulator, see photo…

hope this helps

Second the Jack. Mine had several annoying rattles, 90% of which were traced to the jack and toolkit

HI, i had a 2006 soft top and i had a rattle that only happened over certain bumps [sunken drain] for example. If yours is the same mine turned out to be …believe it or not …the near side shock absorber top plastic shroud which was lose , all you need to do is put some gaffer tape on to hold it tight to the top of the shocker. the sound i got before the repair sounded as thought the brake pads were rattling . Its worth a try just jack the car up on the side affected or both sides if needed . Hope it works.

yup, been there, done them all…
as above; check jack/toolkit then go for D link check.
Ned’s packing mod is also good.
happy motoring

Or drop-link nuts not quite tight
