I’ve ding me rear bumper and need a replacement.
I’ve seen conflicting information about these rear bumpers and what fits what.
Basically, I just need to know if a 2006 bumper (there’s one available locally in the correct colour…) will fit my 2009 model.

If yours is a 2009 I’m sure it’s an NC2 (09-12) ?
I may be wrong but I think I read NC1 is different to later models
Not sure what the actual differences are but MX5parts list two rear bumpers.
NC1 2005 to 2008
NC2 & 3 2009 to 2015
I looked into it a while ago.
The actual fixing points are the same (I think) between Mk3 (NC1) and Mk3.5 (NC2). However the bodywork and shaping won’t line up perfectly. You will likely find the panels foul on each other and have issues with the fitting around the rear headlamps as the rear clusters are totally different dimensions between NC1 and NC2.
I’d recommend avoiding the hassle of finding out and specifically look for the NC2 bumper.

Just a follow-up on this one.
I’ve fitted the NC1 bumper to my NC2 and there is a couple of minor differences that I can certainly live with.
The two rear arch liners are slightly different, but can be modified very easily. Looks like you just need to break off the lower two guide clips. This does not cause any issues if you still have the lower mounting screw… My replacement actually came with the original NC1 liners anyway. Oddly, they both have the same part number stamped on them…
All of the other mounting holes/fittings are in exactly the same place.
The panels lines all match up correctly. However, there is a very slight difference around the lights. See pictures.
I can live with that!
