NC Rear Diffuser Help - New Owner

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2006 NC 2.0L Sport
  2. I’m based near: Southampton
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: I wanted to replace my rear diffuser but I noticed one already on there, I cant see where it is attached and it’s on there pretty solid. Is it factory fitted or is there a way of getting it off? The videos I have watched of installing all show no rear diffuser to start.

Thanks for any help you may give

Can you post a pic of your rear bumper ?

That’s a part of the bumper. Most aftermarket ones have to be attached on top.

Out of curiosity which one do you want to fit? If its a genuine mazda sport one you don’t want to fit it, in fact you should sell it to me and save yourself the trouble :sunglasses:.

Its a bofi racing nc diffuser - I think its the only one that is supposed to fit the pre facelift nc

The ones I’ve seen people have fitted with screws through the face if it. Not sure if it can be bonded on. I don’t know why they don’t just add some webbing or tabs on the back of it so you can screw through the bumper into it from behind for an invisible fixing.

Like this?

Yes thats the diffuser I was looking to install!

It’s designed for an NC2/3. Their bumpers are slightly different.

I had mine fitted for me by a specialist. Basically that black valance (the plastic looking strip) you already have is part of the bumper. In order to get the new diffuser on, they had to cut the bumper roughly up from there anyway. TBH I’m happy I got a pro to do it!

@oldmanbigkid has done a great job on his. See: BOFI rear defuser fitting to NC1

Used this to finish it off with

Ooo I haven’t done that strip. Now you’ve said it, that does look smarter. Now added to the to do list.

I replaced the adhesive tape already on the strip with a proper 3M tape the full width.

I find most aftermarket bits come with the Chinese 3m tape, labelled MMM :joy:. Doesn’t stick well.
