NC rear hub/arm pinch bolt question

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 06 NC
  2. I’m based near: Edinburgh
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: rear suspension parts

Hi, just a quick question-I’m breaking down the rear end of my scabrous NC for derusting and servicing, and of course some bolts are fighting me. Most I know how to handle, but I’ve a question about the one arm/hub pinchbolt.

I know these are splined and so you can’t just rattle gun em out. I can’t shift it with a hammer, I’ll try in the press once it’s out. But, do you have to remove the pinch bolt to remove the arm? Or, with the bolt loosened can I push the arm out?

(basically, some pinchbolted parts also have a channel so that the bolt has to be removed entirely- it holds that part in even when loose. I can’t tell if this is one of those)

Thanks!

It has to come right out.

With pinch bolts always helps to have a spreader socket to open the pinch point slightly and make it easy to tap out.

Dang it. Thanks!
