NC Rear speaker upgrade?

I’ve fitted an aftermarket (Pioneer) DAB stereo, very happy with the results etc. However, the output from the rear (between the seats) speakers is poor, with lots of distortion at higher volume levels (front door speakers are fine).

I appreciate they are not very big, so maybe I’m expecting too much from them - but are there any sensible upgrade options? Getting to them seems to be a bit of a faff, with a fair bit of interior dismantling which I’d rather not do if the answer is going to be “not really”…

Havent done this mod, found this though which might be of some use in terms of trim removal to gain access? A variety of 3.5" speakers appear to suitable? Popular in the states from what I’ve seen? Polk, fosgate among brands being used. let us know how you go on with this, I, for one, am interested?

That Youtube link appears to be entirely concerned with removing the latch/handle on a soft-top convertible. Mine is the powered hardtop so doesn’t have one

This any good … may give some pointers

Swapped mine for a pair of JL Audio TR350-CXi coaxial bought second hand on eBay. Not too bad a job stripping everything down for access. Makes a huge difference. Go for it.

Well, there’s a thing? Why not help yourself and everyone else by providing that quite important but of info? You can put it in your signature I believe? Sorry for providing a link to what (for you at least) was irrelevant but it may still be of use to others who may read this further down the line

Ho hum - When I first posted in here seeking help/guidance it was politely suggested that I put details of my car in my Profile in order to allow other users to see what I had (and so tailor their advice accordingly). So I did. Now it is suggested that I also put it in my Sig. So I’ve done that. Do I need to mention it anywhere else?

Thanks for all the useful pointers. Decision as to what (if anything) to do about the speakers put on hold for a week or two as we’re off to Forn Parts for some R&R.

Oooops! Sorry for your frustration. TBH, personally, I find it much easier, looking at a post that includes details of the car, rather than having to go to the posters profile to find out? Sometimes, it helps if folk also know whereabouts in the country you are too? You never know, someone may be near enough to you, to offer assistance? I think it’s just a quick way of pulling together enough info to offer assistance etc. A lot of threads here have questions posted asking about such things? Which seems a waste of time when it could all be on the same page? Having said that, not everyone wants folk to know where they are?

Anyway, have a great holiday!

YES, YES, YES!

Wear an MX-5 T-shirt, jacket and hat. Tell everyone you meet too. There are still people out there who are unaware about how sodding brilliant these cars are. Soft top, hard top, NA, NB, NC, ND, they are all the dog’s doodahs.

Tell them all what you’ve got, it’s your duty.
