I’ve got the replacement grommets and caps, but at the moment I’m struggling to get easy access to remove the existing bits.
I’ve seen a YouTube video whereby a chap goes waaaaay beyond what is needed to get to the area (he takes the wipers off etc). He then even admits this in the video, but doesn’t seem to explain much else.
So far I’ve removed the plastic cap and unscrewed the screw. I then tried to lift the scuttle up, but it seemed to be snagged. I tried this with the bonnet in the up and down position but it seemed the same. Am I missing something, or am I not applying enough pressure. I have a habit of being too heavy handed, so I don’t want to break anything.
I did mine a couple of years ago. Yes, you should remove the wiper arms (easy job) & also the rubber seal which runs across the plastic scuttle panels under the bonnet. From memory the two scuttle panels will come free if you gently pull them forwards, upwards & sideways. No need to remove them completely, just carefully lift out of the way & then you don’t have to disconnect the washer tubes.
The most difficult part was getting the old grommets out, they’re retained by plastic “teeth” underneath & it was very tricky to lever them out without bending the metal in which they sit which would have spoiled the seal.
I did mine recently and did not need to remove the wipers. I pulled the covers up to get access to the leaky seals on the inserts and smothered them in silicon sealant after I had give them a good wipe to clean and dry them out thoroughly. You do need to take it easy though as you can bend the covers too far if you pull it too far. I got 2 new plastic trim covers to put back over the screw holes as 1 snapped prising it out but in the end I stuck the old covers on using silicon as well. Regards Rob.
