NC RHS Roof drain

Hiya. 2006 NC Sport, soft top.

Have owned it for 5 or 6 years now and our only area to park in is under trees so had to hoover out a fair few inches of water from under the seats two years ago. I have the trusty trombone cleaner and when it filled with water again last week, forgot that I had had trouble with the right hand side drain last time.

I was able to clear it, both last time and last week to allow the water to drain through, but the right hand side one wouldn’t let me push the trombone cleaner through. I know they’re meant to have a one way valve, and to only use the trombone cleaner one way and not try to pull it back, but upon inspection with a endoscopic camera I can see what looks possibly like this valve all the way at the top of the drain - or its something circular that’s stuck in there.

Just wondering if someone can confirm if this piece of plastic is meant to be there, or is something stuck that shouldn’t be there? And why it’s only on the right hand side for me?

Thanks in advance.

Hiya,

I literally swapped out my drain valves yesterday.

That looks like the valve is jammed up to me.

Bear in mind there are actually two valves each side; an upper (which is accessed from above the rear shelf once the plastics are out), and a lower (that seats the whole drain to the exit from the car), accessed behind the seat belt pre-tensioners. See:

I also took a photo, green arrow is pointing up to the upper, red circle is the lower. Excuse the dinitrol.

It’s entirely possible the top one has jammed. The valved connections are the only parts of the system that are plain white.

It really doesn’t take a lot to jam them, they are surprisingly flexible.

Good luck!

Thanks! I can’t initially see if mine have been updated per that service bulletin with the ribs. I guess i’ll have to try doing what you have done, and clean or replace them.

No worries,

Per a number of other members, I haven’t bothered with the foam that comes with the pack. Strikes me that it will just retain more gunk and moisture.

I followed a tip from @RichardFX on here and flushed the drains through with hot soapy water.
Worked a treat.
Road noise has reduced, so it appears to have unjammed the valves as well as cleaning the drains
