NC Seat repairs / covers

Greetings Mx5 fans,

My 06 1.8 (standard cloth seats) has worn material in the usual places (bottom and side bolster) on the drivers seat.

I rang a local trimmer who does work for a local mx5 dealer, and quoted me £120 to replace the 2 fabric panels.

Has anyone had this work done and does this price seem about right please? It seems a bit expensive to me so I started to explore alternative options -  ie buying custom seat covers or replacing the seat etc.

I can see that Moss Miata in the states will supply tailor made neoprene covers which look quite good, however they will not ship outside of the states and state for LHD cars only.

Had a look on mx5 parts and Moss Europe and can’t see any seat covers for sale. Also looked on ebay and only drivers seats for sale have the same wear issue. There are car seat covers for sale on ebay but most look to be generic cheap rubbish.

So looks like the retrim may be my only option. Just wondered if anyone else has any other suggestions. I am keen on diy but have never attempted any kind of upholstery work before so don’t think that this is an option. I will be ringing around to get some other quotes in the meantime anyway.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hiya, personally, I don’t think that’s too bad a price to get your seats looking good again? I went the whole hog and had mine retrimmed in leather along with the gaiters and door cards. Just short of £800 fully fitted. I had the same cloth seats as you and they weren’t worn through, just a bit shabby looking on the bolsters. I have recovered seats previously on mk1’s and bought hog rings and pliers for the job but the company (Seat Surgeons, York) only charged around £100 to fit the complete set so left it to them.

I took the opportunity to change the style/design of the covers and the colour combination by doing this.
