NC Steering wheel shiny or matt finish

Just getting around to giving interior a good clean. Was the steering wheel from new a shiny finish or mat finish mines a bit of both and I can’t figure out if it’s shiny through dirt and use or matt due to worn leather.

Usually come with a Matt finish which gets ‘polished’ through time with dirt and grease from your hands. The leather on most Japanese cars isn’t the best quality IIE. You can try to bring it back to Matt using a (kitchen) magic sponge. I’ve used that several times until I treated my wheel to the Royal refurb. The leather steering wheel on my daily driver (VW Polo) comes up like new using the magic sponge.

Like Davy also done the Royal steering wheel refurb. Thicker with thumb rests. Well worth the £££

Mine was shiny and very slippery when wearing gloves in the winter. Also it felt thin and un sporty.Got it recovered and thickened by RSW.

How much £££’s we looking at.
Seen a you tube video with magic sponge people claim it’s just a form of fine sanding??

Wheel cost £150. Three  ways you can do the exchange once you tell him what you want

1 pay £250, he then sends you a custom wheel. You then send your old one back recorded deliver. He then pays you back £100.

2 If your 5 is not your daily drive,Send your wheel down and pay £150.He sends  you a wheel back (not your original) I did this, send wheel Thursday & had my new wheel Monday.

3 The best option £150, send your wheel and ask him to refurb that one. Will take longer (2 weeks)but it will be guaranteed to go back on central.

IMPORTANT because of the number of teeth on the boss, a good number of wheels won’t go on straight. Not an issue but would mean you will have to pay £30 to get it centred.

Happened with mine, but luckily id just had my 4 wheel alignment done the week before.Guys sorted it for free.

If your cars not your daily drive id go option 3.Great Mod and feels proper sporty.Normal MX5 wheel just feels horrible now.

Option 1 if you 5 is your only car.

Heres a vote for RSW. My wheel was shiny with the leather peeling at the joints. Not too bad, but the recovered wheel is such a massive upgrade. I have a brand new 3 series m sp.org as daily drive and I think the recovered wheel is better, it really is that good.

i bought a wheel from a scrapper and sent him that one which was turned around in about two weeks, at the price level mentioned earlier.

interesting to note the comment about the wheel being centred, mine was frustratingly about 2 degrees off so alignment beckons.

Not too bad a price was expecting more will try take some pictures but I think nothing will bring it back to life. But will still have to wait otherwise the Mrs will be killing me…said when I bought it I wouldn’t spend on her but already have.Have to sneek the purchases in every now and then

Another vote for RSW. Had mine done a couple of years ago as birthday present and what a difference. Had it fitted by RSW and it wasn’t centred but luckily was already booked in for a 4 wheel alignment straight after so no problem… Definitely worth having done!

One of the nicest things IMO that I’ve done to the car. Go on Bruce, you know you want to!

One thing that gets neglected is the steering wheel, I gave mine a deep clean and most of the years of grime came off. It was as described matt (grime) and shiny in places, it came up well but a little worn in places.

The RSW treatment last year and it looks similar to those above.
