NC - Sun Visor Warning Signs/Transfers

If they’re “Tampo” printed, they can be erased with a gentle rub of T Cut on a cotton bud, then polished. Works on my railway models ok.

Well yesterday I plucked up the courage and finally got round to seeing if I could remove the transfers.

Decided to give Evo-stick adhesive cleaner a go as a search on the internet suggested that this stuff is the equivalent of what others have used in the US, ‘Goof Off’.

After placing some towels to protect the interior from splashes. I applied small amounts to a clean white cloth and started to rub at the transfer. Initially nothing happened then I noticed that the writing had smudged. After that it started to come away pretty quickly. Turning the cloth frequently and reapplying small amounts of the evostick the transfer slowly disolved. Around 20mins later, in normal sunlight, it appeared to have totally dissapeared without any sign of damage to the surface of the sunvisor. Washed the surface clean and then applied Armourall Protectant.

Just had a quick look at the car, in the garage, and again no obvious trace in normal light. However under the direct light from a torch you can see a white smudge over the surface. I suspect that there is still some residue from the transfer still to be removed rather than the evostick having ‘taken’ the colour. Particularly as the white smudge isn’t confined to the area where the badge was but spread over a much wider area.

Had a 2nd go at completely removing them at the weekend all evidence of the warning transfers are now gone.

I was followed into work the other day by another ‘5’ with the sunvisors down. That re affirmed to me that those transfers are ugly things I’m glad mine are gone.

Thanks for updating us, Ill give it a go with the Evo-Stick, its always bothered me

No problem. Just make sure you cover everything up and be careful you dont spill any!

Did mine at the weekend (they are printed, not stickers) using the Evo-Stick cleaner and one of those green pan scourer things; messy and stuff stinks, but well worth the effort.

As I said I just used a rag rather than anything that might scour the surface. Probably took me a bit longer to remove mine but as the NC3.5’s have the warning transfers are on the outer face of the visor I wanted to be sure I didn’t mark the surface in any way.

Thanks for uploading some photos.

Your right about the smell though certainly clears your head!

Mark

Mk3 has them on the outside of both visors as well, but I have no patience! Tried the light nylon scouring pad on the inside of the nearside one first (pictured) and no marking so did the lead faces. Speeded-up the process no end!

Did mine with the Evo-Stick fluid at the weekend; I took the whole sun visor panel off the car, makes things a lot easier for just a few torx screws. One thing for future reference to is ensure you keep using a clean piece of cloth and keep applying fluid to the cloth, seemed like once the cloth was only slightly soiled it barely removed any more of the stickers (I just used kitchen roll).  Thanks Wolves for finding that product, worked a treat

No problem. I thought about removing the visors first but it seemed like too much trouble.

Looks a load better without them!

looked on the site in desperation! Sticky stuff remover failed, as did turps, meths and lighter fluid. Saw the mention of Goof Off, did a rummage under our kitchen sink and found a can I had brought back from the States many years ago when flying restrictions were lax. Fifteen minutes later all 3 stickers were removed…only downside I feel VERY lightheaded, it is potent stuff. Cheers

If anyone is still looking “Goof Off” is available from Amazon UK.  But it aint cheap!

The ego stuff does work but you have to rub for sometime before it has any effect. i couldnt find goof off anywhere Otherwise I’d have defo used that.

it certainly looks better without those ugly transfers.
