NC - Sun Visor Warning Signs/Transfers

Personally I think these warning signs look damn awful. Does anyone know if these have to be on the car for it to pass its MOT?

If they don’t need to be there then I’d like to get rid, Has anyone tried / had any success in removing them? If so what did you use and how effective was it?

Cheers

Mark

I completely agree with you. My wife’s just got a new fiesta 64 plate. It too has them on but her previous one (13 plate) didn’t. The nc has been around longer than the 13 plate fiesta so I think its just put on. I can’t see it being an mot failure but I’m not qualified to say.

I was thinking some sort of spirit may work but then you run the risk of discolouring the plastic. It’s annoying as it’s not a sticker that could be removed using heat/ steam. I keep meaning to try a test spot with some tar and glue remover but I don’t think he outcome will be good.

There is no requirement for them to be there for the MOT.

Thanks Robbie,

Just need to work out a way of getting em off without leaving a right mess

You could always stick another over the top of it

Great idea! I can see the wife being well impressed…

Try WD 40. It tends to remove most adhesives.

Thanks John. I’ll give it a try.

Thing is I dont believe they are transfers as such. I think they are more like a screen print directly onto the plastic.

Thought I’d have had more feedback than this. These warning signs are ugly. Find it hard to believe there isn’t any other NC owners out there who havent tried to remove them.

Lighter fluid is also good for removing all sorts of sticky things like labels and tapes, and doesn’t leave any oily residue.

I think rich had the best idea. Maybe a rectangle / curved edge rectangle in plain may/ satin black would cover it over and make it less of an eye sore. It’s not going to be a flawless finish but gotta be better than what was there?

I also think its some sort of printing.

Had a bit of a search on Miata Forum. They suggest that they will come off without leaving any residue.

Over the pond they Seem to favour someting called Goof-Off which doesnt appear to be available in the UK. Other suggestions were Nail polish remover, Carb Injector cleaner, Evo-stick adhesiver cleaner.

Tbh I dont fancy trying to cover them so was hoping someone over here had had some success removing them. I’d have then go with what they had used.

Looking like I might have to just bite the bullet and try some of the above.

Sticker remover kit on Amazon.co.uk costs £1.08.

I used this kit to remove dealer stickers so worth a try I reckon.

Cheers Clive.

Did you remove the stickers from a Mk3? From the visors?

Had a quick search, is it the one that comes with a scraper? Sounds like its worth a try. But not the scraper!

Isopropyl alchohol if you can get some.

I agree, these warning labels look rubbish. When i got my Gaydon entry photo I discovered that unfortunately I had the visor down and it really sticks out.

I think the US product called Goof Off is the same as something sold here as Sticky Stuff Remover. It will remove anything, like the glue residue from sticky labels and has a nice citrus smell. I got some dirty engine oil on the carpet in the caravan this summer (not my fault, for once) and it removed it completely. It’s not aggressive, so could be worth a go.

Mine started lifting and just peeled easily off.

Yes that’s the one. The scraper is only plastic so it comes in handy to scrape off adhesive when it has turned to goo. I’ve left my visor stickers in place. I quite like them!

Cheers,

Guess they must have changed how these warnings were applied, to the later models anyway, as mine are definately not transfers that you could just peel off. There are no definable edges to them they are more like a print directly applied to the plastic.

I guess I’ve got a few options that I could try.

In the US shortly so may try and source some goof off while I’m over there.
