NC washer bottle

I don’t know if anyone’s seen this thread on miata.net. I’ve not seen any comments on here. The upshot is that there appears to be a larger washer bottle fitted to the NC ‘somewhere’ in the world. Dealers in the US have said that they can’t supply them.I’ve spoken to a dealer in the UK that sent a technical note to Mazda. The reply was that they will not supply a part number to UK dealers.

Now, being fed up with filling the washer fluid up every couple of days, I’ve gotten pretty detemined to get to the bottom of this. I contacted Mazda Australia and got this reply…

I’m pretty sure that someone on this forum is resident in the colonies. Would it be possible to have a look at the manual page in the miata.net link and compare that to the Australian washer tank? maybe a picture?

Or, any other ideas on how to source one of these monsters

Part number for a washer tank with Discharge headlamps (i.e. with headlamp washers) is NE75-67-481A. Looks from the picture that it mounts direct to the body so I’d guess that it’ll fit a UK car. You’d need to plug the hole for the headlamp washer pump. Depending how much it is (take that part number to your dealer) you may have to bite the bullet, order it and see if it works.

Thanks Robbie, I’ve got numbers for the Australian and Canadian, and this one from you now - will phone the dealers Monday.

The Canadian part is NE52-67-481A  and on the manual page on miata.net it looks like that only has one pump. Perhaps they get a bigger bottle just because the weather is so iffy

I did this improvement today. Having changed from my beloved NC1 after it was written off by an articulated lorry, I vowed not to add / upgrade my NC2 too much……… of course that hasn’t stopped me doing lots.

It’s rained so much that I haven’t been able to do much on the drive recently and this was a nice little project.

So, back to the titchy washer bottle. It’s really inconvenient when you use your MX-5 as a daily driver and seem to be frequently topping up the washer bottle. Fortunately, MX-5 Parts stocked the larger bottle which came as standard on cars with disccharge headlamps and the headlamp washers.

As Robbie said, back in 2009(!), you need to bung up the extra hole which supplied the headlamp washers. I noticed that there is a large unused bracket which can be removed and decided to use this to create a cap for the extra hole.

I just cut it off and trimmed it to get a similar sized plug for the hole. Plastic welding is easy with the polypropylene plastic and it’s not very visible when fitted.

I took off the grubby standard bottle - seen here and compared with the new larger one.

It fitted in nicely and I didn’t get too wet dodging the showers and then filled it up.

Very happy with three times the capacity at 4.5 litres. Everything just fits in nicely.

The washer bottle size is literally my only gripe with my nc too, why on earth did they make it so small… was it for weight saving I wonder
